Since opening in the autumn of 1941 Portland Pipeline has delivered more than 4 billion barrels of crude oil to Canada. The 100 acre tank farm and marine terminal in So. Portland receives about 22 tankers a month and the tank farm has a capacity of about 3.2 million barrels of oil. The tank arm in Montreal has a capacity of approximately 1.5 million barrels. PMPL’s two pipelines, 18 inch and 24 inch in diameter, are monitored and controlled by a computerized supervisory control and data acquisition computer system (SCADA) operated from a control center located in So. Portland. SCADA provides operating intelligence and controls to the pipeline operator and enables the operator to remotely control pump intelligence and controls to the pipeline operator and enables the operator to remotely control pump units at the eight pump stations and to direct and follow the crude oil into and out of PMPL’s storage tanks. In 2002, deliveries to Montreal averaged 418,000 barrels per day from a total of 235 tankers.

At the time Stateline was built it was the largest wind farm in the world with a peak output of 300 megawatts (90 megawatts into Bonneville system) and it only took six months to complete. Stateline was developed by Florida Power and Light Energy (FPLE) energized in October 2001.
Stateline is located between Walla Walla and Pasco near the Wallula Junction, Wash., where the Walla Walla River joins the Columbia River. The power generated from the Stateline wind farm is collected at the Nine-Mile substation at 34.5-kilovolt (kV), of which 210 megawatts is delivered to PacifiCorp to their 230-kV Wallula substation and 90 megawatts is stepped up to 115-kV and is delivered to the BPA system via the 115-kV Stateline Tap transmission line built by FPLE. The Stateline transmission line heads north and crosses over the Walla Walla River and taps into BPA’s 115-kV Franklin-Walla Walla transmission line.
BPA provided the structures and switches at the tap, metering, relaying, SCADA, and a microwave radio link with Franklin substation.
The area around the project is used primarily for private farming, including dryland wheat farming and cattle grazing.

"The blades are mounted on a housing unit the size of a minivan and sit atop a massive tower about 165 feet high. Wind propels the blades, which turn a shaft that drives a generator. The electricity goes to an underground distribution line, where it is carried to the main substation. I have found out this is the Stateline Wind Farm.
The blades need a minimum wind of 7 mph to turn and start generating electricity at 9 mph. A computer shuts down the turbine if the wind reaches 56 mph."
