The Church of St. Savior in Chora (Turkish Kariye Müzesi, Kariye Camii, or Kariye Kilisesi — the Chora Museum, Mosque or Church) is considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of a Byzantine church.
The church is situated in Istanbul, in the Edirnekapı neighborhood, which lies in the western part of the municipality (belediye) of Fatih. In the 16th century, the church was converted into a mosque by the Ottoman rulers, and it became a secularised museum in 1948. The interior of the building is covered with fine mosaics and frescoes.
The majority of the fabric of the current building dates from 1077–1081, when Maria Dukaina, the mother-in-law of Alexius I Comnenus, rebuilt the Chora Church as an inscribed cross or quincunx: a popular architectural style of the time. Early in the 12th century, the church suffered a partial collapse, perhaps due to an earthquake. The church was rebuilt by Isaac Comnenus, Alexius's third son. However, it was only after the third phase of building, two centuries after, that the church as it stands today was completed.

These folks (themselves motorcycle riders) informed us that the HORRIBLE constuction we'd gone through last year near Cooke City, MT was completed YESTERDAY -- allowing us to choose an alternative route through Yellowstone, instead of having to turn around and go back to Cody to avoid the unexpected Beartooth construction. What a stroke of luck!

i *love* this tow truck. I-95 isn't a great place to get a flat, especially after an already crappy day.
I spent a good half hour watching these seagulls dive for smelt off of Park Point. Amazing! And a good song that came to find when I saw this photo, as this gull just making contact with the water sort of looks like a preacher. ha. www.youtube.com/watch?v=D221qMNCB5w
The phone comes to the rescue. They were sick of watching the Dodgers get creamed by the Phillies. Instead, they opt for an episode of Friends.
