Fairey Rotodyne XE521 of 1957 was built in Hayes, Middlesex (Westland also built helicopters in the town). These are the only parts left of this unique "convertiplane" project. It was designed to transition from vertical to cruise flight and was indeed way, way ahead of its time. Unfortunately, although Fairey had spent at least fifteen years on this project there were no orders forthcoming. In 1962 the project was cancelled and XE521 last flew in January of that year. This Rotodyne holds the record for a "convertiplane" and reached 190MPH.

Campaigners fighting to save a Manet painting from being sold abroad in four weeks have taken to the streets of Oxford.
The group was highlighting an Ashmolean Museum campaign to buy the Portrait of Mademoiselle Claus for the public.

With time fast running out, the Ashmolean Museum is stepping up its efforts to put everyone in the picture about its campaign to save an Impressionist masterpiece.
The museum has just three weeks left to raise £590,000 to keep Manet’s Portrait of Mademoiselle Claus in Oxford and stop it being sold abroad.
And to ensure everyone at the city knows what is at stake, museum staff have hung weather proof full-size framed copies of the Manet portrait to brighten up city centre streets.
"Save the Library" held a special presentation on Sunday afternoon, featuring Penny Watson, author of "Banknotes and Books for Bridgeton," who gave a presentation on the topic of her book. Shown above are Sally Garrison, chairperson of "Save the Library," Anne Feinstein, who received thanks for doing the graphic design of Watson's book, Penny Watson, and Joyce Cooper, STL committee member.
The only lighting used here is one SB-900 in the hotshot with a large Better Bounce Card, flash ev set to +1.0. There was some fairly dim ambient room light. I'm pretty satisfied.
