My friend Peggy (who took this photo) works in kangaroo rescue, helping orphaned joeys survive and be returned to the wild. Now the government of Australia has started a kangaroo slaughter to cull herds which have grown too large, rather than relocate them. I'm asking people to go here and read the material, watch the video, and sign the petition expressing outrage and urging the government to relocate the animals, rather than killing them in cold blood.

Teapot
Today I did a fun little repair project.
Sometime back a woman sent me a sterling silver teapot that had some rattan wrapped around its handle.
It was loose and all coming off, She wondered if I could save it as it had a lot of sentiment, being that it was her grandmothers.
I finally got around to it today. It took me a few tries but I think it turned out pretty good.

Some preservation-minded people turned this apartment building (330 Wythe) into a plea to save the Domino Sugar factory from destruction. Its landmark status is being considered now. Story from curbed.

Mr Elastrari, a local net and long line fishermen knocked on my door and told me he had a carp for me. The fish weighed 21 kg or 46 lbs and he had caught it the previous morning in his net along with another of around 9kg. The fish had been secured by a length of cord through the gill plate and out the mouth. Mr Elastrari had rowed the 4km across the lake with both carp swimming behind the boat. The fish seemed in reasonable condition, a few scales missing, split tail and dorsal fins and some nasty net burns across the nose and face, but not in bad overall shape. Fingers crossed the stress hasn't been too much and it will survive and prosper to grace our banks and make someones holiday some other day.
