Even though the name suggests a dark beach, you won’t see much in the way of blackness. Black Rock Sands is an open, wide beach with fine sands. The name comes from the area to the west of the beach dominated by a large, multi-coloured headland rock, low-tide caves and rock pools, an area rich in marine life. Natural history is also a feature of the local sand dunes, which have been declared a ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest’. Unusually, you can drive onto the beach here – so it’s a popular spot not just for picnickers and sandcastle builders, but also for motor boats and water bikes which have a special zone designated for their use. There are also dog restrictions on the beach.

Luquillo Beach separates the Atlantic Ocean and a forest full of Palm trees. A perfect place to relax.

#Nationalpark Maasduinen

Deadvlei, Sossusvlei, Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia

This photograph features one of the dunes which snake along the edge of the Deadvlei pan in Namibia. The Sossusvlei region is one of the sunniest places on earth and temperatures in January reach in excess of 40c. The heat is so extreme that visits to the area are made at dawn, which provides the best lighting conditions. The colours change quickly; from red to orange to yellow depending on the light and the hour.

Many thanks to those who comment on my photo's and/or add them as favourites.

Life is like sand, whoever passes by leaves their footprints on it. The wind drags it away and changes its shape, but nothing is lost if we keep the memories we have in our hearts tight in our minds.

Late Morning along the Dunes. The light was just perfect.

The pristine white boat left high and dry on the low tide.

Today we start looking at some aspects of life and leisure in Bridport. This little town of 1,600 people sits on the north east coast of Tasmania. To the north is Bass Strait. To the north east is Flinders Island.

In summer its numbers swell as holiday makers enjoy the beaches, the boating and the golf courses. The Barnbougle Golf Links provide two outstanding links courses, The Dunes and Lost Farm. Both have been listed by Gold Digest Magazine as in the top 100 courses in the world. It is now the main tourist attraction in the area. We'll come to those later.

But for the next few days we'll take a look at the boating side of Bridport, both for work and play.

Holidays in Scotland in winter always stir the imagination that there will be a decent amount of snow about and the already startling landscape will be transformed into a winter wonderland. The added bonus is that whatever the snow situation there are such a wide range of stunning places, and Gruinard beach is a wonderful spot on a sunny day!! Cold day in the sun by Foo Fighters is perfect , but it's not as cold as last time we visited, when I paddled through sheets of ice!

Thanks for your visit, comments and/or faves
