A sandstorm is a weird thing: you call out in the black to find out where you are; you stumble around like zombies; everything is caked with sand, and tastes of sand, and smells of sand; vehicles can't move, people wait inside them; you cry sandy tears for a couple of hours after coming back in; when you get to the shower and the water hits your hair, your skull bleeds mud.

I was browsing the photostream of a friend who recently went to Death Valley National Park. Her pictures reminded me of a few shots I too took while visiting Death Valley a few years ago, and I was inspired to post some of my shots. This is a shot I took of the Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes early in the morning. We woke up early and made the trek out to the dunes in hopes of catching the morning light hitting the ridges, and to get some good shots before the dunes were covered with people. I'm super happy with the way this shot came out.

Taken New Forest National Park, Hampshire. A male sand lizard in full breeding colours caught as it hunted insects. Nearby was a female, both then joined up on a sandy slope where the female started to prepare area for laying eggs.

Though the Danish summer 2015 has been disappointing in terms of temperature, my daughter enjoyed building castles in the sand.

These sand sculptures seem to be everywhere at the moment . Have to admit that some of them are very good .
