On April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon Drilling Platform exploded and sank, causing the largest oil spill yet recorded. Samples from the oil spill were collected by Louisiana USGS scientists Greg Swayze and Charlie Demas and sent for analysis in Menlo Park, CA. These samples will undergo the same liquid chromatograph column and mass spectrometer testing that the Alabama samples did.

In years past manufactures were very nice in providing small sample packets of their products. Grocers or at exhibitions were one place that they could be obtained, the other was sending off to the manufacturer for a sample.
Due to the high price of postage today, the cost of sending the item is more than the cost of the product, it is far easier for a manufacturer to simply allow the potential customer to download a voucher and go and get a free full size pack from the supermarket.
Interesting little collectables are no more.

Sample of altar cloth. Pricking from Svenska Spetstar 40/2 Bockens linen. this is the second sample, out of the same thread to be used on the main project. It enables church members to see what is going on, and helps the maker eliminate mistakes from the actual cloth edging. It has been boiled to check for shrinkage.

Sample of Tripper Tricolor, text free to Gary Lineker’s famous saying about the Germans. Combine 3 different colours into 1 message. And for those patriots in the USA, Greece, Uruguay (and all other countries with a striped flag) who want to make their own striped text: the family comes with an extra striped version…
Cheer up the world with some colourful typography.
When I was first pretending to try different materials as my warp. I knew all along I just wanted white cotton.

Really liking the wet juicy nib of this fountain pen for doodling and sketching. It doesn't skip and feels smooth from the get-go.Blog entry.

The Pantry is a wonderful space. Of special note, the muntin bar of the cabinet casing aligns with the meeting rail of the window.
