These are some samples for my friends wedding using just Vanilla and Chocolate cupcakes. The buttercream is a vanilla swiss meringue and underneath the the fondant ones is chocolate swiss meringue buttercream. She wants a pink and brown theme so these are what i have come up with so far.
This will be the first time i've done a wedding tower and i'm quite excited and scared at the same time! :-)

These old core samples were still in their boxes. Everything here was covered in a fine, brown dust.
Citrus Sampling happens twice a year at the California Citrus State Historic Park. Over 30 types of Cirtus were offered at this event; everything from Kumquats to Blood Oranges.
It will be held again next month on Sunday March 23, 2014.

This is worth a story.
So I dissolve plastic using a very powerful solvent and let them cast in these little pyrex beakers. To help them cure, we put them in a fridge (gas chamber) to keep them at a lower temperature and to provide an Ar environment.
This was used for small batches of ~6 beakers at a time with no problems. Then came time to ramp up for a full scale test. I put 48 beakers (4x12) in at once and let them cure for a week or two. The testing equipment wasn't ready in time sadly, which turned out to be for the best because of this little OPPS!
I didn't notice it until I tried to open the fridge which wouldn't open. With a lot of force, I was able to pry it open a bit. I was greeted to this sight. Imagine how sad I felt.
Turns out, there were so many samples that the DCM (powerful solvent) vapors didn't have anywhere to go and started to attack the plastic of the fridge. The plastic slots that held up the second rack melted and the rack fell. In general lots of plastic melted. One of the fridge fans stopped working.
Live and learn. Sometimes experimental science happens like this. I should have been more concerned that the DCM vapors would attack the plastic inside the fridge.
Back to the drawing board!

In this photo I removed most of the beakers. One was still fused to the bottom. In this photo you can see the holes the DCM burnt through the bottom of the fridge in the back!
And will you look at how it warped the down panel on the far left!
The J-Pop band Love Psychedelico sings "I wanna be a cowgirl" well, here you go. Complete with the "platform shoes" which were a big trend in Japan. This is another sample girl wait that doesn't sound right. Anyway, she was giving out shampoo and conditioner samples in Kamakura.

A collaborating scientist extracts odorous compounds from Amorphophallus titanum. The same hole was used a few hours earlier to blow in a dose of pollen from Indiana University.
I've started on a sample of back-stitched text taken from one of the love letters. I've used a heat erasable pen and the top line was done to check that it would erase. Not sure if I will cut this up for patchwork appliqué or use it as a base fabric and appliqué over the top of it to break up the text.
Sample color green. One toe the rubber is peeling but stitches unaffected. No holes/ no tears. 8.5/10

After learning how to make the sweet treats, the kids were able to sample many flavors of custard and ice.
