Same species as yesterday's post, but this one is the more typical variant called the 'white stripe', since those markings are so clearly visible on its head.
According to allaboutbirds.com,
the White-throated Sparrow is a 'large, plump sparrow with a long tail and fairly small bill. Bold face pattern with black and white crown stripes, yellow spot between eye and bill, and neat white throat patch on gray face and breast.'
I photographed this bird in the springtime as the leaves and blossoms were gracing us with their lovely colors.
I like the way the bird was facing the other way, but then gave me a nice facial pose when it turned back to look at me.

England’s River Thames has been a working river and lifeline since mankind first learned how to lash wood together to make a boat. At numerous times throughout history it has been defended against invasion. Just upriver from the 19th century Coalhouse Fort is this derelict radar tower and jetty from WW2.

Staredown between this northern goshawk and a wasp. A fairly uneven match, but a fun sight all the same.

Same day as my last photo and right around the corner--the C03 crew has just got on NS 5104 at Oak Street and proceeds west at CP Mans to work the industries on the west side of Mansfield on May 7, 2020. The track off to the right connects to the old Erie main line, which crosses the Ashland's stub-end of the B&O at South Mansfield just a couple thousand feet to the west. Meanwhile, the old Westinghouse factory in the back left, which has sat unused for quite a few years, was demolished last month (12/22).
Still not sure why they tacked on a Canton remote unit on the west end this day, or why they needed two units on both ends. This job today usually gets one unit and often has more cars than years prior.
Same sunrise on New Year's Day. Different point of view and tonemapped. I just remember how cold it was.
#3 in Explore! Thank you all!
Not as spectacular as her male counterpart of course, but a pretty gal just the same !
Thanks for viewing, Faves and comments are always appreciated !
Same park, same snowfall after blizzard like conditions...beautiful once the wind had dropped though :)
I would politely ask that you don’t invite me to groups with fbanners badges or awards..post one comment on three etc
I simply haven’t the time..thanks Sue xx
For Macro Mondays theme – 06/29/15: „Seeing Double“
Last week I shot this image without knowing about this weeks topic for Macro Mondays. This morning I saw the first shots in the groups pool here on Flickr. I thought that this image would fit nicely into this weeks topic. I hope you like it!
Strobist info: I used two YN560III. One was facing towards the background and the other one was pointing at the subjects.

Same flower as previous image just slightly different perspective and details. I did experiment with some dodging on the petals, slightly. I love black and white photography! Converted while editing. Thanks my friends!

Photographer under observance and more "looking up" at the Upper West in Berlin's City West.
At a height of 119 meters (390 feet), the Upper West is the fourth-highest building in Berlin. The most prominent tenant is the hotel chain Motel One which occupies 19 of altogether 33 floors and offers 582 rooms. The Upper West's tower consists of two parallel structures, each of the same height but not symmetrical. The white, slightly shiny façade (which can be seen in the reflections) is interspersed with windows throughout.
Happy Sliders Sunday, everyone, and I wish you a great new week ahead!
When we had the clouds around at the Rachel Carson NWR earlier in the day I was hoping they would stick around for sunset once we reached Pemaquid Point. Was not disappointed when they stuck around :)
Here sunset was about an hour away ... soft sunlight fighting to get through the cloud bank made for some nice conditions at the lighthouse. Found one of the nice reflection pools and then slipped on the 400ND filter to smooth out the reflection there on the breezy water. Two years ago when here under the same light it did not even occur to me to use the ND filter for this purpose ... have learned a lot since then. A post from two years is show below in the comments.
For this vertical comp I placed the subject centered ... and I think that work well given the location ... though I took other comps :))

For several years this nest box in my garden has had a mating pair of Blue Tits (Cyanistes Caeruleus). It's lovely to see them back once again. Whether it's the same pair annually is unknown.

Same tree on the Blue Ridge Parkway, with much more color this week, and completely different lighting.
Same hill as below a couple of months on, minus the geese. There was a field of ostriches behind me, maybe I should have photoshopped some of them onto the brow of the hill :-)
Seen today, on a beautiful warm, sunny afternoon at The National Botanic Gardens of Wales - bees and sunflower ( and with apologies to Mandy Willard for using the same caption although I didn’t see yours until I got home - honest Guv! )
There's a patch of Teasel in the field next to my house, which attracts a lot of Goldfinches. There were several feeding there again this morning, but the light was too poor to bother with the camera. I stood & watched them for a bit though, which is always a pleasure.
Here's a shot that I took back in November, taken in the same spot, when the light was more favourable.
A carnivorous animal in the same family as weasels, badgers, mink etc. that lives primarily on a diet of fish but also includes frogs, crayfish, crabs and even a few waterfowl.
A coat of long guard hairs over their insulated underfur keeps them warm and dry so they can stay comfortable throughout the North American winters. They are very successful at hunting prey in our rivers, streams and ponds aided by their webbed feet, long muscular tail and sharp claws coupled with the ability to hold their breath for extended periods. As a preventative measure to becoming waterlogged they do spend a lot of time on land and enter the water only to hunt or travel much unlike the sea otters that spend most of their lives in the ocean. An overland sprint of 10 to 18 miles while searching for prey is not uncommon.
River otters seem to have the ability to live alone or in pairs but are quick to socialize in groups when other members are encountered. After mating and going through a gestation period of 80 - 90 days a female will give birth to 1 - 5 pups in a den called a holt or couch which she excavates under tree roots or a cache of rocks. Prior to the birth the female called a bitch or sow will drive the male (dog or boar) away and the pups or cubs will be tended to by the female and older offspring if still around. The pups will begin emerging from the den at about 1 month of age and mom will entice them into the water for their first swim at about 2 months. After the pups are weaned dad may return and help raise the juveniles until probably 1 year of age. Females attain sexual maturity at 2 years of age and males at 3.
River otters range in size from 10 to 33 lbs and 2.5 to 5 ' in length with females being about 1/3 the size of males. When not hunting prey they spend much time playing and frolicking with each other. This individual is one of a trio that has clawed its way onto the ice to enjoy the spoils caught underwater.
