My dentist's office is on the 25th floor of a medical building close to San Francisco's Union Square. Today was a beautiful clear day, and I took this photo through the office window. I always go there in the morning, but it would be interesting to try this same shot in the afternoon when the sun hits all of those windows directly.
Salesforce Tower is almost due East, on the other side of Market Street. The building with horizontal stripes to the right of center is 595 Market (at 2nd Street). On the left, you can see the twin antennas on the top of 101 California Street.
The top of Salesforce Tower, the tallest skyscraper in downtown San Francisco, vanishes into a cloud,
Salesforce Tower (formerly Transbay Tower) is an office skyscraper in the South of Market district of downtown San Francisco. It is the tallest skyscraper in the San Francisco skyline and the second-tallest building west of the Mississippi River. The tower opened in 2018 and has 61 floors, with a decorative crown reaching 1,070 ft.
The building is named for its largest lessee, the cloud-computing multinational technology corporation....Salesforce. The building is mostly owned by Boston Properties, the real-estate investment trust. Much like the Transamerica Pyramid, Salesforce Tower has emerged as an icon of the new San Francisco.
Here's a recent stock use of my image in San Francisco from August 2017. I'll be back there next week, so I'll look for some new shots with the Salesforce Tower.
It's a license to a media company, so undoubtedly it was part of a subscription package which nets me just a few cents.
Nice light and moving fog for this panning time lapse shot from the Intercontinental. I used a shift lens to move the skyline lower in the frame and my camera's crop mode to frame the scene tighter. This reduced the resolution of the individual frames, but it's still more than enough for a 4K video.
San Francisco’s skyline is a dynamic blend of old and new, and this cityscape showcases that in full force. Anchoring the scene is the futuristic Salesforce Tower, completed in 2018, which stands as the tallest building in San Francisco at 1,070 feet. Its sleek, tapering design is a symbol of the city’s modern tech boom, representing a significant shift in San Francisco’s architectural narrative. Its glass curtain wall, reflecting the sky and surrounding structures, gives it a lightweight and almost ethereal appearance amidst the more traditional buildings nearby.
In contrast, we see the Bank of America Center, a hallmark of Brutalist architecture from the 1960s, which offers a stark, geometric contrast to the curving form of the Salesforce Tower. The Heuristic architecture seen in some of the mid-century modern buildings reflects a period when function met form in the most utilitarian of ways.
The reflected glass of the 50 Fremont Center foregrounds this view, showing the intricate dance of light and shadow as it plays across its surface. This building, completed in the 1980s, carries a postmodern flair, combining reflective glass with polished stone. In the background, some of San Francisco’s older Classical Revival structures also make their presence felt, with arched windows and ornate details that remind onlookers of the city’s long-standing commitment to blending history with innovation.
As the city continues to grow and evolve, this juxtaposition of past and future in its skyline highlights San Francisco’s unique identity as a hub for both cutting-edge technology and timeless architecture.

Established as a parish of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco in 1880. The church was built in 1892.
The viewing area closer to the bridge is now closed. There is very little light reflected on the bay from this perspective, but I did get a bit higher and closer to the bridge for some shots after this sequence.
A series of shots from Post Street looking east toward Salesforce Tower. I noticed this view while in an Uber, so I went back on foot with my camera.
Taken shortly after midnight from my home, with Salesforce Tower on the left about 5 miles (8 km) away.
Salesforce Tower, a 1,070-foot-high skyscraper that will be the tallest and most expensive building in San Francisco when it's completed.
And you can see several other buildings under construction as well. San Francisco is growing.

This is part 3 of the changing view from my hotel room at Loews Regency last weekend. This is from the fog time lapse sequence I shot at sunset/twilight. The fog is evident at higher elevation, but is clearer down below.
