The old "Saddledome" which is home of the Calgary Flames NHL hockey team. I love this spot in our city as when it gets dark, you get to photograph the gorgeous city lights, and the lights of the Calgary Tower all in one shot.
Late afternoon with the Scotiabank Saddledome and downtown skyline, Calgary, Alberta
Having some fun around town with my Fuji X-T1 recently. Photographed until the lights came on downtown but this was my favorite from this location. Perhaps I am just craving having the sun in the sky!
Blue hour with the Scotiabank Saddledome and downtown skyline, Calgary, Alberta
Captured approximately three quarters of the way into the "blue hour."
Attended the Calgary Hitmen hockey game in the Saddledome after the photographic outing was over.
Unfortunately, we lost 1-0 to the visiting Everett Silvertips. Better luck next time boys!

It’s been ages since I have taken Calgary Skyline with the Saddledome in the foreground from this vantage point. If my memory served me right, it may have been during the days when I was still shooting film. Since then, Calgary has grown dramatically-several buildings sprawling like mushrooms. I am not entirely sure what to make with it-I still like the old Calgary where it has the Bankers Hall, Calgary Tower & Petrocanada buildings are the prominent one in the horizon. I took several shots from this area and I thought I should post this image first. You maybe wonder why I didn’t bother cropping the foreground to make it cleaner. But that’s exactly what I wanted to show from this image. I wanted to capture the Industrial portion of the East side of the river. At the same time I wanted to be a little creative by showing the two lighting post strategically within the Rule of Thirds.
This is a 3 images blended! I have one exposure of the sky, the buildings & several important highlights (Saddledome sign, Calgary Tower) that I wanted to keep within the acceptable level. Overall, I am quite happy with the results and worth the effort freezing my fingers & toe waiting for an hour to get the perfect lighting condition.

The Scotiabank Saddledome is the primary indoor arena of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Located on the Stampede Grounds, on the east end of downtown Calgary, the Saddledome was built in 1983 to replace the Stampede Corral as the home of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, and to host ice hockey and figure skating at the 1988 Winter Olympics. Today the arena is also home to the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League and the Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League.
Another one from my series of photos taken from the top of the Calgary Tower last Friday afternoon, here you can see the view out over Southwest Calgary.
Features of view include our distinctively shaped sports and concert stadium, the Saddledome, to the far left of the image, the gorgeous corporate towers that are separate from the rest of downtown, and the Talisman Sports and Recreation centre in the middle right.
To top all that off, it was a gorgeous day with a lovely sky and clouds overhead!
Enjoy your Friday, my friends, I am on my first day of a four day weekend here!

Saddledome from Scotsmans hill in the warm early November in Calgary. This was a 6 second exposure as the sun was setting. The clouds covered much of the sunset this day. Nice that there is an offleash dogpark here as well if you own a dog. =)

Abstract of downtown buildings at Sunrise, Calgary, Alberta
The first image in a sunrise triptych I photographed of Calgary downtown buildings.
I would argue with the exception of the Calgary and Bow towers, perhaps even the Saddledome, nothing says downtown Calgary to me like construction cranes in the sky.
The city of Calgary with it's Saddledome, home of the NHL Calgary Flames and it's Calgary Tower is silhouetted and the big Alberta sky.
Calgary, a cosmopolitan Alberta city with numerous skyscrapers, owes its rapid growth to its status as the centre of Canada’s oil industry. However, it’s still steeped in the western culture that earned it the nickname “Cowtown,” evident in the Calgary Stampede, its massive July rodeo and festival that grew out of the farming exhibitions once presented here.
The spectacular view of downtown Calgary from Scotsman's Hill. The Saddledome in the foreground definitely gives away the location - iconic Calgary!
