Winter is beautiful when it first arrives. This shot is from a walk at 'golden hour' along the shore of Lake Ontario at Coronation Park in Oakville, Ontario.

We were walking by the lakeshore in Oakville, Ontario yesterday. The skies were wonderfully clear and the cityscape of Toronto (30 miles away) was exceptional. I only had my phone camera, which did not handle the detail well, so I decided to make lemonade out of the lemons, and try to approximate a painting of the scene that was before us.

I saw this on a walk today. I liked the juxtaposition between autumn and winter.

I took typing classes in high school on a beast like this. If you weren't paying attention, your fingers could get stuck between the keys (at least mine did), or you could jam the keys by going too fast (which is something I never seemed to experience.) Found this wonderful specimen on a shelf at a friend's house. This shot taken with my phone camera, then tweaked in Luminar2018 used a plugin to Lightroom.

This is a quick shot I took with my phone camera during a visit to Flat Rock Winery in the Niagara Region of Ontario.

I'm a sucker for the wonderfully consistent patterns that farmers decorate the land with.

It was a rainy day at Coronation Park, but the colours on the trees were as spectacular as ever.

Used Luminar2018 to remove a garbage bin from the shot that distracted from the scene.

Some leaves go quietly in autumn, but not all. This one leaf stood out among the bland yellow leaves on my lawn.

We were walking along the lake at Bronte Harbour Marina this week. The water was absolutely mirror-like as this Red Necked Grebe drifted by.

A perfect photo opportunity! Except... all I had was my phone camera, not known for it's quality in low light, or from a distance, both of which I was dealing with.

I did some post-processing in Luminar3.1 to try and recover the moment... vowing to myself to grab the better camera for golden hour walks by the water.

Another contender for an upcoming winter themed spread in Our Canada magazine. This is my favourite tree at Bronte Beach Park in Oakville, Ontario.

We had a chance to stroll through Toronto's historic Distillery District. This old truck was part of the scenery. Unfortunately is was more of a date than a photo hike, so I only had my phone camera.

I cannot look at a dandelion flower in seed without considering picking it and blowing the seeds into the wind. Then I think about all the work of getting the weeds out of my lawn and usually reconsider.

Apparently the exercise program is not going as well as planned. Seen on a visit to Waterloo, Ontario.

This is a crop from a shot I took with my phone camera while walking at Tannery Park in Oakville. It was hard to see the transition from water to the sky without the context of the shoreline.

I did adjust the tones to bring out the blues.

This is one of the only trees in the park that refused to shed all of its leaves. It stands in contrast to its bare branched neighbours.

There's nothing like a bright red maple leaf to bring out some pride in this Canadian.

Why do I get the feeling that this boat is a character in a Mario Bros game? The woven rope bumper is a work of art in itself.

Taken with my phone camera, then edited in Luminar3.1. Pulled back all the colours but red, and enhanced the details.

Took a walk by the lake today. It was calm and utterly peaceful.

This is a quick shot with my phone camera edited in Luminar 2018 to enhance the feeling.

Niagara on the Lake has preserved its quaintness. The town was a centre of conflict between the British and the newly formed country of the US.

The British influence is still prevalent and is reflected in the architecture. This is the side view of the Prince of Wales Hotel, just down the street from the Shaw Festival Theatre.

Some tonal tweaking and sky adjustment in Luminar3.

These are the fall leaves our our Lilac bush. Winter is coming.

Sometimes things catch my eye as I walk. Like this leaf... flat against new concrete. The juxtaposition of nature and man-made.

In this case, a fallen Maple seed propped up by a Poplar leaf on a picnic table where I take walks by the lake.

Another test of the Luminar Software. This is a crop from a phone photo taken in a dark barn at my granddaughter's riding lessons.

I'm normally a calm person, until I see something just enough out of whack, and it truly drives me nuts. Let's see if you can see it too.

Winter gives a beautiful starkness to the trees. This shot taken on a walk at Bronte Creek Park with my phone camera. Processed in Luminar3.

This delicate dandelion normally creates a bit of consternation for me when I find it on my front lawn, since it usually means that I will be picking out several new plants in the coming weeks.

In this case, I took a photo with my phone camera and then tweaked it in Lightroom.

I love the delicate beauty of the dandelion, but hate the fact that these are weed seeds... and I'll likely be pulling them out of my lawn in a short while.

It's always delightful when architects design a building to fit in oddly shaped lots, like where two street converge to a point.

This is in the Distillery District of Toronto and has been tonally tweaked in LR and LU18.

This (not so) little bug landed on the lapel of someone near me. She wasn't startled, and let it sit and rest a while. It looked much like a brooch.

This one tree in the park seemed to attract all the gnarly.

I was in a supermarket whilst at my work lunch when I peered out of the window and saw this beautiful moth sitting behind a street bench.

I left the shop and approached a gentleman sitting on it and said "there is a beautiful Hawk moth I think, sitting behind your bench. I'm going to take a quick photo if you don't mind".

Sure he said, I've seen those before at home.

I haven't seen these before . they remind me of a WW2 bomber including a typical army camouflage.

its not the best background but a reasonably shot I think for a camera phone.

This little stand of trees takes on a starkness in the winter. I love their twisted trunks.

Taken with my phone camera and the 'mystic' added in Luminar2018.

The rainy weather kept the visitors away from the park, and left an empty roadway beside all the blazing trees.

Converted the image to mono in Luminar2018 and it didn't disappoint. I like the contrast of the trunks with the bright leaves.

I had just finished mowing the grass then sat down to cool off. It was approaching golden hour and our neighbour's tree was lit up, reflected in the glass top of our patio table.

Winter textures on the shores of Lake Ontario. Thankfully, it will be months before I can take such a frigid shot in this place since Spring has arrived!

The night time temperatures are dipping, meaning we are starting to see the 'early turners' - a precursor to the striking beauty of autumn leaves.

I saw this leave while walking near Bronte Harbour and was delighted with the whimsical pattern of colour.

Another shot from Osprey Marsh in Mississauga. The Teasels were at the end of their bloom, but that didn't stop the bees from getting the last of the nectar.

Continuing the colour theme. Some old shots reworked in Luminar3... mostly for practice.

This old Fargo truck was discovered int the Distillery District in Toronto - a very pleasant place to be on a nice summer day. Taken with my phone camera.

The lake was showing its quiet side as I took a walk during golden hour. The two swans swimming by was a bonus.

This beautiful basket decorated with porcupine quills was on display at the Marriott Rosseau resort in Muskoka, Ontario.

This basket demonstrates the skill of the First Nation artists, this one was made by Ojibwa artisans. This is a dying art form, and it is good to know that some communities are working hard to retain this wonderful artistic heritage.

The serenity at the Bronte Outer Harbour was palpable during a golden hour stroll.

Some detail enhancement in Luminar4.2

This is a test of the overlay feature of Luminar2018. I was playing with two very dissimilar images - in this case the first snowfall in Muskoka, Ontario, and the overlay image (very subtle) of a male lion near Johannesburg, South Africa. The lion's image is faint, almost subliminal, but in a weird way, adds some wildness to this shot.

We are staying with relatives and this old pooch has been part of the family for years. When he arrived, he was all black.

I was intrigued by the water droplets on the hood of my car after a rain. Plus I needed a subject to test out the camera on my new phone.

A quick shot I took with my phone camera. We were visiting friends and were about to sit down and have a great meal on the patio overlooking the ocean. The sun entered 'golden hour' and cast a beautiful glow over the table.

It's clear why they call this time of day 'golden hour'.

With apologies to the BeeGees...

We were at a craft market in Muskoka this weekend and a local beekeeper brought along a hive to create a 'buzz' for his honey sales.

Something was spilled on our patio and before long, a plague worthy number of ants were on the clean up crew. The was an invisible coordination going on amongst the seeming chaos of the situation.
