I drove for 11 hours solid yesterday, so we could be back in time for the Cardiff Half Marathon. Run by Snow Patrol is perfect, and this slow movement is about the speed we'll be running. My wife's team, who I'm running with, are running for Cancer research, as she's recovering from operations and treatment so will be a big challenge.

The last day's of a salmon's life is not easy, having to migrate upstream back to its spanning grounds. In this image, the second in the series, you can see one salmon working its way upstream through shallow waters and obstructions such as the fallen branches in its way. This image is a tighter crop of the previous image.
This one was lucky. A young racoon wandered over this same spot about a minute after this salmon had safely crossed it and had swam off.

Meerkat at Makgadikadi Saltpan, Botswana
This one´s not as cute as those standing and scanning Meerkat shots. But for me, I like it most, as I was able to capture it at full speed nice and sharp.

Hopefully there is no farmer with a gun on Oare Marshes nature reserve and this one was happy to run to me and not away.
BNSF 4331 leads manifest train CSX M652 westbound through Moss Run, Virginia, along the CSX Alleghany Subdivision.
On the way back from visiting the Garden of St Erth, Blackwood we came across a paddock of sheep. As soon as we stopped and got out of the car they started to run. So this one crossed in front of me as the flock in general ran away! As you can see the paddock is very dry and thistly with not a lot of feed showing the problem the drought has had.
Fresh into the Canyon, the crew of Watco's Agawa Canyon train performs the run around move during the 90 minute layover. While our car wasn't the most comfortable the train ride was well worth it, amazing weather and some good color along the way.
This is a collage of three of my photos.
1) The scene taken at Santa Clarita.
2) The house at Santa Clarita. Very adjacent to this place.
3) Jason.
I started playing with the original scene (sounds like THE ORIGINAL SIN). But I was not happy with what I produced. And finally, I decided to be more creative and added the two components that made up the final image. I hope you like what I did.

Graffiti decorations
Under the sky of dust
A constant wave of tension
On top of broken trust
The lessons that you taught me
I learned were never true
Now I find myself in question
They point the finger at me again
Guilty by association
You point the finger at me again
I wanna run away
Never say goodbye
I wanna know the truth
Instead of wondering why
I wanna know the answers
No more lies
I wanna shut the door
And open up my mind
run, child,
from the house
of shadows,
run.

Sometimes I just want to scoop up my family and run away. That's not very realistic though. One step at a time. Yesterday I accepted a new position and took that first step.
I hope that you, your friends and your family (and mine too) all have a safe, relaxing and happy weekend.
Much love, peace and happiness to all of us.
Hiking along Meade Run in Allegheny National Forest and checking hemlock trees (tsuga canadensis) for Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA), a tiny, invasive insect that is detrimental to these beautiful trees. HWA was introduced to the US from Asia accidentally in the 1950's in Virginia, and has been wreaking havoc on hemlock trees in states like TN, VA, and NC to name a few. For nearly the last 10 years when I hike in the ANF or any other area I take a little extra time to check hemlock trees for HWA. I report my findings to the USFS or other agencies depending on where I am hiking. On this trip I checked around 30 hemlocks for HWA and found none.
