This scrub jay is another capture from the cold day where the birds would just let me approach and stay where they were. It was windy and cold, which helped them make the decision to wait me out!

I was watching a Kingfisher when all of sudden this Osprey flies in and claims the tree sending the Kingfisher flying off to find a new perch. I didn't mind the trade off.

se avete tempo...se vi piace.....ecco giorgio gaber....

With the usual stern expression of raptors on its face you might be forgiven to think that someone ruffled this black kite's feathers, but it was actually just a gust of wind that ruined its formerly immaculate appearance. ;o)

The Sandpaper verbena (Verbena Rígida in portuguese), gets this name by the rough textured leaves that feel like sandpaper when touched. It is a low spreading perennial with flattened stems.

Ruffled, colored flowers appear in the spring and remain through the summer months. Flower color ranges from lavender to purple.

The Sandpaper verbena is native to South America, but shows wide adaptability when planted in sunny and warm locations. It grows well on banks, along walks and among rocks in southwestern and Mediterranean style gardens, and can be clipped in the winter to maintain its size.

White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae) juvenile

I was able to make a quick visit to the Heathdale - Glen Orden Wetlands and was thrilled to see a lot of juvenile birds around. This Heron was quite amusing to watch as it was trying to imitate Mum feeding.

I think women have long been defined by their roles as procreators and wives, and we're expected to serve, take care of, say 'Yes,' and not ruffle any feathers. Women, in particular, are sometimes not allowed to consider who they are outside of the roles that they play.
