Got to visit this FREE rubber stamp in Cleveland, Ohio last autumn.
Here's a short article from Atlas Obscura:
My wife made lots of cards using rubber stamps. I think this one is particularly amusing – she also liked Teddy Bears.
A rubber stamp has everything reversed in order that the print is the right way round. I have flipped the photograph so that the words are more easily read.
The Macro Mondays group has chosen Stamps today.
The Macro Mondays group chose Stamps on Monday 24 January 2022. Today they have chosen Redux 2022. We have been asked to revisit one of this year's themes and to take another photo. I have flipped the image to make it readable.
My wife was keen on making cards using rubber stamps, this one seems appropriate for today.
the bird stamp i traced from a wonderful doorbell plate from flopping fish. the bird on the bottom right is the first trial stamping; you can see that i hadn't carved out the legs yet. the last trial stamping is the bird on top. i really love this stamp and used it right away to decorate the front of a postcard to a friend.
This set is too large to use for the Macro Mondays theme of school supplies, for today 9/5. But now this has got me wondering where the scissors are??

Anti-Witch Underware — Folklore from The Schoharie Hills Series #266.22.24
relief prints and mixed media on museum board, along with the hand carved stamp
artwork inspired by the book Folklore from The Schoharie Hills New York, by Emelyn Elizabeth Gardner, published in 1937 by University of Michigan Press.
The author did field work from 1912 to 1918, compiling a fascinating study that includes chapters on history and legends, folk tales, witchcraft, ghost stories, songs and ballads, games, riddles, and general folk superstitions.
In the chapter about General Folk Superstitions, a listing under the heading “Folk Cures and Preventions” reports that “Cross-stitching on a person’s underware will keep away disease demons and witches.”

An excerpt from the UK Guardian, as to why we are so drawn to this design: Alain Samson, a social psychologist at the London School of Economics, says that in times of difficulty, "people are brought together by looking for common values or purposes, symbolised by the crown and the message of resilience. The words are also particularly positive, reassuring, in a period of uncertainty, anxiety, even perhaps of cynicism."
