EYK 396, London Transport RT 1 (1939 / 1949 AEC RT / LPTB) on route 61 at Bromley Common.
This bus carries the prototype RT body, built in 1939. The original body and chassis were separated in 1945, with the chassis being scrapped in the 1950s. The body survived on a 1949 chassis new to RT 1420, as a mobile mechanical training unit. After some years in a near derelict condition, the bus was bought for preservation in 1978, and restored with the identity and registration number of RT 1 in time for the 1979 celebrations for the last RT in service.
After export to America in 1983, it returned to the UK in 1986. After a few owners, and the possibility of a second exile, it is now in the collection of the London Bus Museum.
