While the flights of the RSS Pale Blue Dot and the RSS Mote of Dust provided successful proof of concept that hyperspace travel was possible, their ventures within the Solar system never truly achieved what the final goal was: faster-than-light travel. That honor was reserved for the RSS Hedy Lamarr that embarked on a 4-and-a-half-Month-40-light-years-round trip to the Trappist-1 System (solarsystem.nasa.gov/news/335/10-things-all-about-trappis...) in 2361, gathering a plethora of valuable data during a close flyby.

It did take me forever to build that follow-up on the RSS Pale Blue Dot (flic.kr/s/aHskHoPuG3) and the RSS Mote of Dust (flic.kr/s/aHskUJZMn8). There were a number of attempts and iterations, most were never photographed, some were photographed but remained unpublished.

Seen inside the shed at Wishaw, Loram liveried 08632 continues to receive attention. Having been onsite since mid-2021, the loco has seen the removal of the unreliable and ill-fated 'Remote Control' equipment that was installed by EWS.

08632 is one of my favourite shunters, having been on site at Allerton TMD during May 2003 when I was there on work experience. I was fortunate enough to assist on it's D exam at the time. Having kept up with the loco over the years, it has been just about everywhere!

During the final few years of it's EWS career, it had a bit of a famous assignment being deployed to Harendale Quarry for use on trip workings to Harrisons sidings. This involved a short period of mainline running. It was replaced quick quickly by 09020 due to the slightly higher speed of the 09. Sadly this experiment came to nothing with Network Rail not fully sold on the idea of having a 27mph shunter on the West Coast Mainline. Following being stepped down, it had a lengthy spell at Wolverhampton Steel works. It also served at locations such as Bescot, Cardiff Tidal, Daventry, Hoo Jn and Mountsorrel. It's final EWS/DB assignment came at Mossend after being released from a DB red repaint in 2014 at Bescot. Offered for sale in the Autumn of 2016, the loco was snapped up by RSS.

In RSS ownership it has served at Glasgow works, Llanelli, Leeds Neville Hill, Eastleigh, Bescot and Derby Loram.

After last weeks posting of an older photo of 08939, it was a pleasant surprise to find the other 'Euro Gronk' 08738 sat at Wishaw for attention last weekend.

Having been returned from France at the same time as 08939, both had a substantial period in store at Toton before being sold for reuse. The pair were kept together and both purchased by RSS. Since reactivation the loco has 'yoyo'd' between Eastleigh and Felixstowe before returning to Wishaw for attention.

Of note, the multiple working socket installed for use in France can be seen on each end underneath the radiator grille and in between the marker lights.
