Romance is a term that is described as a pleasurable feeling of excitement and wonder associated with love. It is also used as a way to court or pursue amorously. In the context of romantic love relationships, romance usually implies an expression of one’s love, or one’s deep emotional desires to connect with another person.
Historically, the term “romance” originates with the medieval ideal of chivalry as set out in its Romance literature.

FLOWERS OF ROMANCE, by Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra
A flower (not sure what it's called) near the shore at Leça da Palmeira, Portugal, north of Porto. (View On Black)
If you've never before taken the time to read one of my lengthy descriptions, take the time to read this one. I promise you, it IS entertaining (and even educational), in more ways than one!
I've been posting my exposure settings for sometime now. I've previously discussed different aspects of exposure, including a lengthy discussion of aperture, but what, you might wonder, is Exposure Bias?
You can see in my notes below that the Exposure Bias for this photo (and for all my photos, in fact) is 0 EV (EV = exposure value). The final exposure of any photo is the culmination of how long the shutter allows light to enter the camera, how much light the aperture allows in, and the ISO (which determines how sensitive the image sensor (or film) is to the light entering the camera). Exposure Bias allows you to fine tune the exposure once you've set the shutter speed, the aperture opening, and the ISO sensitivity. If, for example, I wanted this image to have half the exposure as is seen here, then prior to pressing the shutter release I would adjust the Exposure Bias to -1 EV. For every "one-stop" (or whole value) of EV, you lose half, or you gain twice as much exposure. So, -1 EV is half as much as 0 EV, and +1 EV is twice as much as 0 EV.
To give you a simple chart,...
+3 EV = 2X > +2 EV or 4X > +1 EV or 8X > 0 EV
+2 EV = 2X > +1 EV or 4X > 0 EV
+1 EV = 2X greater than (>) 0 EV
0 EV
-1 EV = 2X less than (<) 0 EV
-2 EV = 2X < -1 EV or 4X < 0 EV
-3 EV = 2X < -2 EV or 4X < -1 EV or 8X < 0 EV
Many digital cameras, both point-and-shoot and DSLR, allow the value of the Exposure Bias to be adjusted in 1/3 increments, so -1 1/3 EV or +2 1/3 EV could be used, for example. (Those are three whole stops apart, too, so the difference between them is 8 stops of light, so that one is 8X greater than the other, and the other is 8X less than the former.) You'll have to consult the user manual to figure out how to adjust this setting for your particular camera. (Don't stop reading now! The best is yet to come! :P)
Exposure: 1/100 sec
Aperture: f/11.0
Focal Length: 135 mm (Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM)
Effective Focal Length: 216 mm
ISO Speed: 1600
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Shooting Mode: Aperture-Priority AE (handheld)
Note: Cropped, but otherwise SOOC.
With this photo, I set the aperture only. I let the camera set the shutter speed and the ISO. Typically, when I use aperture- or shutter speed-priority, I also manually set the ISO (usually to ISO 100, which will produce a photo with the least amount of noise). This way the camera is adjusting only one option, either shutter speed or aperture. If I set the camera to aperture-priority and I set the ISO manually, the only option I've not set is the shutter speed. In the same way, if I set the camera to shutter speed-priority and I set the ISO manually, then the camera is allowed only to adjust the aperture. I maintain the greatest amount of creative control over the exposure.
As for my Canon EOS 50D, when the ISO is set to AUTO, this camera has a virtual love affair with ISO 1600. Canon has apparently decided that the camera will always have a secret rendez-vous with ISO 1600 for the photographer who refuses to exercise control.
Your own camera may have an unbeknownst love affair with some setting, too, if you paid more attention to what it was doing. Be a photographic chaperone! Don't let your camera have its own secret rendez-vous.
As romantic as it may sound, under these circumstances the images that result from this sort of marriage typically lead to divorce: that is, the photographer usually abandons the camera for a better, far more expensive camera, thinking that that is the solution, when the fault lies with the photographer him- or herself. Get involved in your relationship with your camera, and you will love him/her, and he/she will love you back. I promise! I guarantee it!
And then the next thing you know, the two of you will be having secret rendez-vous of your own that will be far more sensual (light is what feeds our primary sense, yes?) and successful and enjoyable than when your camera attempts such things by itself. (I'm not even going to go any further than that with this analogy. :P LOL!!!)
My youngest did not want to participate in "photo day" at school today.
(cue tears, tears, more tears)
... which is fine with me, because I'm much happier with the photos I take in our home. Relaxed and real.
I was setting up shots of this rose for adding to "artistic reference" collections - single source lighting, when he came over and picked up the rose - of course, being the boy that he is, he wouldn't stop twirling it! (hence the blur)
