October 6, 2023 - Long Range Plan for Nuclear Science Event Brookhaven National Laboratory Direct Dr. Joanne Hewett and Haiyan Gao, Associate Laboratory Director for Nuclear and Particle Physics, deliver remarks before a multi-lab presentation on Friday, 10/6/23 in the Large Seminar Room in Physics Bldg. 510. During the event, Gail Dodge, chair of the U.S. Department of Energy/National Science Foundation's Nuclear Science Advisory Committee (NSAC), gave an overview of 'A New Era of Discovery: The 2023 Long Range Plan for Nuclear Science'. This document provides a roadmap for advancing the nation's nuclear science research programs over the next decade, including at Brookhaven's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, and includes strong support for the 'expeditious completion' of the future Electron-Ion Collider. The Plan highlights the scientific opportunities of nuclear physics today to maintain world leadership and details progress since the last long-range plan that was published in 2015. The document also features the impact of nuclear science on other fields, applications of the research that benefit society, and emphasizes the importance of supporting the nuclear science workforce essential to the research at nuclear science facilities and universities across the U.S. .
