On my way home from an epic coastal mission I was driving through some serious forestry, came over a hill and the landscape opened up into this..how could you not stop!
"L" for new windows backround! :-p
Although fall color season has passed its peak, there are still some golden aspens left in the hills above the Los Pinos River as Denver & Rio Grande Western Locomotive #168 brings her passenger train into the little yard at Sublette, NM (MP 306.06) for a water stop just ahead.
The 168 is the sole remaining operable example of the 1883-vintage, T-12 Class of 10-wheelers. She worked the D&RG and later, the D&RGW narrow gauge network for 55 years, before retiring and becoming a static display in 1938. After nearly 80 years in that role, she was revived and restored to operation in 2019 for use on the present-day Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. The 3-car passenger consist behind her is all original, 19th century D&RG equipment, which was all restored in the same time-frame, specifically to run with this locomotive. Because of her age and limited tractive effort, the 168 and her "historic consist" see limited use, mostly during special events, such as the October 2024 photo shoot during which this image was captured.

Freightliner 66 610 rolls through Tonbridge with a heavy Aggregates working from Whatley Quarry. With the chance of good weather I headed to Tonbridge and for once got off to explore the area, including the footbridge across GBRfs West Yard. Another one of those places I'd gone past so many times but never had a proper look at.
You never turned around to see the frowns on the jugglers and the clowns
When they all did tricks for you
You never understood that it ain't no good
You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you
Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They're all drinkin', thinkin' that they got it made
Exchanging all precious gifts
But you'd better take your diamond ring, you'd better pawn it babe
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose.

I tried some rolling, some spinning, and some bouncing.
This entire series is unedited except for a little brightening and even less contrast adjustment. (I did also clone out a few spots of lens/sensor dust from this one.)
Late afternoon mist rolling in over Rams Head. It was beautiful watching the weather change before our eyes. Incredibly enough, although this mist looked as if it was going to close the weather in for the day, ultimately this is what lit up when the sun went down and created the incredible sunset we witnessed later.

Later a great thunderstorm broke from the west. As the dark thunder clouds roll in, we can just still see clear sky in the east.
I love the contrast in this image and the fact that you can see streaks of rain coming down on the left of the image.
Research shows that waves are becoming larger, with surf reaching about 4 metres with the increasing global warming.

Ok, got a little carried away. Was getting a little frustrated in how it was turning out, so it got rolling away.
