Richmond / San Rafael Bridge - San Rafael California
I recently met up with Albert for a early morning sunrise out around the Richmond / San Rafael Bridge. We scouted out a few spots, and tried a few compositions, but nothing really seemed to be working that morning. I went home and developed my roll from the day, but I wasn't all that excited about what I had. After rethinking the composition, and the tricky curves of the bridge, I ended up with this image. Not exactly what I'd like to see from this spot, but I do think this shows the potential of the spot.
The Richmond / San Rafael Bridge, otherwise known as The Roller Coaster is a very unique piece of architecture. With it's twin support structures, flat section ( seen here), and double inclines, the bridge still sits in the lonely shadows of it's cabled siblings to the south. I have always found this bridge to be an interesting subject, but the surrounding areas seem to make it very difficult to isolate, and compose it's points of interest. I am sure I will be back here many times as the Winter months bring storm clouds, and increased fog.
As always... Thanks for visiting.

From a series of pictures taken with my D700 + Nikkor AIS 50mm f/1.2, ISO800, handheld at dark. The location was Tivoli in Copenhagen.
Our Halloween costume in 2005 was a rollercoaster. The kids at school were totally freaked out by it. They couldn't quite figure out how we were floating.
It was easy to make out of one box. You cut it out and fold down the side and paint.
As you walk along, pantomime the actions of going up the hill and going over the top. It makes it really fun if you can mime the whole ride. We mimed the Blue Streak from Cedar Point that I rode on growing up as a kid in the 70's.

"My life, my career has been like a roller coaster. I've either been an enormous success or just a down-and-out failure"
Shot on the road that passes Badbury Rings in Dorset. It's a dangerous and busy road - lots of hidden dips and the light is poor due to the overhanging trees. But, it is an amazing place. These trees are such a treasure. There is talk about more of them being cut down because they are getting too old and dangerous; another row of trees has been planted outside of these, but it will not have the same drama because they will be much wider apart.
I will upload another one later, taken from the centre of the road and in colour. This one I put in B&W to give a more gothic and spooky feel to the image.
