a cloudy day doesn't stop her from smiling... a young girl in the orphan care program at the Peace Gospel International Uganda campus puts a loving arm of support around a little girl she's watching over. The newly completed secondary school can be seen in the background.

Not a personal favorite and from what I hear, he is not a rolemodel... But who am I to judge. He has 18 million subscribers and he does the splits... Hats off mr. Logan.
He's elderly & blind but wasn't stopped by that when he recently took part (with his volunteer guide) in Southport's annual Half Marathon.

This is my dear Uncle Don. He is not a blood relative, but he is "uncle" to the hundreds of kids he taught in his lifetime. As our high school music teacher, Uncle Don taught us to question authority, to think for ourselves, and to stand up for what we believed in. And he taught us by example to be true to ourselves.
I visited him last week with my friend Sandra. She is a new friend, and a trip to meet Uncle Don is absolutely necessary for all the people I am close to. The experience touched her deeply. In fact, you cannot visit him and escape being affected.
Walking into Uncle Don's, you are transported to another world. Two full-sized antique pipe organs share the living room with his nine-foot concert grand, a second grand beside it, a custom-built 20-foot double-ended harpsichord, a clavichord, a Mozart grand, antique Victorian settees and chairs, framed manuscripts, stained glass, hanging tapestries, an antique grandfather clock and a night-blooming cereus that puts out flowers that dazzle his friends and neighbors.
Sandra, a pianist herself, had the pleasure of playing dual piano with him, and of trying out the harpsichord, clavichord and organ. Then we were led into the dining room, where we enjoyed a light lunch served on antique Spode china. We speared morsels with a few pieces of his collection of antique mother-of-pearl-handled silverware (more than 600 pieces in all), and drank from heavy Waterford crystal goblets.
Then, while I cleared and washed the dishes, Uncle Don showed Sandra the downstairs, which houses the rest of the keyboard collection -- a total of more than 40 keyboards.
The adopted son of a humble Montana miner and his wife, Uncle Don has never forgotten his roots. He works his land, even at the ripe age of 81 (or is it 82 now?), and thinks nothing of driving around in a 20-year-old car that runs perfectly fine, thank you. And although adopted, he cared for both his parents in their golden years. He loved them fiercely, and frequently speaks of their leap of faith when they answered an ad in the local paper and took him -- an abandoned baby -- into their home and hearts. He remains profoundly grateful for that, and for their many sacrifices they made for him. They both died in his home.
He believes that he is the custodian of all these beautiful things, and that he must share. And share he does. Complete strangers who hear about him drop in and are treated to the tour and some tea. He regularly plays at seniors' homes without charge, simply to give back and bring joy. And every Monday morning without fail, he calls the registrar (now long retired, at 100 years of age) of the university he attended, and he plays the organ for her.
I could go on and on and on about Uncle Don. Actually, I guess I already have!! But there are many more stories -- so many fond memories in the 42 years I've known him.
When I took this photo, I had hoped that the musical notes on the framed manuscripts would show, but they are a blur. That's the lid of his nine-foot grand in the background. I thought the light was so nice on his face while he was talking to Sandra, I told him not to move, to go on talking, and to ignore my clicking. He did, and that's why this looks so natural -- or at least I think it does!

The Muvar-koil (‘temple-of-three’) is a beautiful temple of Chozha period, built by the Irukkuvel chief Bhuthi-vikrama-kesari. As per a foundation inscription on south wall of the north-most temple, he built these three Siva shrines, one on his own behalf and, the other two on behalf of his wives.
The vimana is three tiered. This vimana is prior to the

The 2021 theme for International Women's Day is 'ChooseTo Challenge' and my tribute is for a woman who did that in so many ways - my great friend of about 30 years - Mae Govan. It is with the blessing of her family that I post this photo I took of her as we played 'dueling cameras' back in 2007.
Mae's Aboriginal parents proudly welcomed Mae, their eldest child, into the world under a tree in outback Queensland, Australia. Little did they know back then what a trailblazing woman Mae would become.
A legend of a woman with such a colourful vibrant character, she overcame so many challenges, achieved much for so many yet was still so down to earth. She enjoyed sitting down under a tree in the outback talking with Aboriginal Traditional Owners and community members, and was just as comfortable leading large number of staff in her various high level managerial positions. As the first Aboriginal Alderman to the Katherine Town Council in the late 1980’s she was a powerful voice for our community and wasn’t afraid to voice her opinions or challenge decisions she didn’t feel were right.
I can’t sum up Mae's many adventures, challenges and triumphs over the years in so few words but will also cover another side to her in my next post. Read more about Mae here as well www.katherinetimes.com.au/story/7154477/katherines-women-...
After a courageous fight with cancer, Mae passed away on 5th December 2011 when she left for her next journey. She lives on in the hearts of her much loved family and those of us lucky enough to have known her. The world is a richer place for all that Mae contributed to it. Not good-bye, just till we meet again my friend.
Please respect the copyright of this photo and not use it without permission which includes that of Mae's family.

Moovar Koil or "The Three temples" is a Hindu temple complex situated in the village of Kodumbalur, 36 kilometers from Pudukkottai in Tamil Nadu, India. These temples are believed to have been constructed by a 10th-century Chola general Boothi Vikrama Kesari. Only two of the three temples have managed to survive. The place was ruled by Irukku Velir chieftains. Kodumbalur was also the site of a fierce battle between the Pandyas and the Pallavas.
While I waited, these two brothers crossed to the fountain and were photographed by their parents. The older of the two seemed very proud of his role of Big Brother and they were clearly the best of friends, too. When the younger lad said he couldn't see over the wall, the older one immediately helped him.
This vignette of Mae Jemison is part of "Women of NASA," a project on the LEGO Ideas contest celebrating five pioneering women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Vote to make this a real LEGO set: ideas.lego.com/projects/147876
Trained as a medical doctor, Jemison became the first African-American woman in space in 1992. After retiring from NASA, Jemison established a company that develops new technologies and encourages students in the sciences.
If this project receives 10,000 votes, you could soon buy one at a LEGO store near you!
The full Women of NASA set includes four additional minifigures — of Sally Ride, Katherine Johnson, Margaret Hamilton, and Nancy Grace Roman — plus vignettes including a microscale Hubble Space Telescope, space shuttle, and replica of a famous photo showing the code that got astronauts to the moon.
To see the full set and to vote, visit: ideas.lego.com/projects/147876. Thanks for your support!
Entered a photo contest with surrealism as a theme, ended up in 10th place...... well, it's better then 19th...;)
My idea was the distorted image that teenage girls today have of themselves and the unhealthy rolemodels that influence them. You should be a doll...... the brain doesn't matter that much.
Tók þátt í ljósmyndakeppni á lmk og lenti í 10 sæti, vissulega betri árangur en 19....;)

MORNING LIGHT THOUGHTS . . . at the Artist's Colony.
My brother is older than me and became a photographer first when he was in high school. He was on the Yearbook Staff; he shot black and white for the newspaper. His friends were photographers; he went to a photography school after high school graduation. People throughout the state knew my brother as a photographer.
As far back as I can recall, my brother took photos. The one I'll always recall was of the Grand Canyon, before he'd practiced much photography and wasn't a professional. My brother is a natural photographer, much better than me.
But one of the things my brother and I share is a great-grandmother who was completely blind and we share an entire series of mysterious vision issues.
My brother was a wedding photographer for decades and use to shoot dances and proms and other things professionally. He knows and knew film and developer and darkrooms. Then his vision began to decline.
I don't know what my brother thinks. Maybe he believes that all of photography depends on the eyes, but I believe photography starts in the heart, in the soul, in the mind and spirit. Those things have only deepened in him as he's grown older; he can now see things with his heart that he could never see with his perfect, youthful vision.
So what, my brother's vision is not perfect? So what?
A art museum curator once told me that in order to become an artist, a person must first live life and have something to truly say about life with their artistic skill. The skill may come along young, but the voice and inner vision matures later.
I hope my brother will begin experimenting with digital photography. As a darkroom/lab photographer, my brother knows more about photography than nearly any youth-filled pixter who owns a digital point and shoot. There's a place for all.
Sometimes, we just need to borrow someone else's vision of ourselves before we can see that tucked within we still have a song yet to sing before we leave this earth. Or in my brother's case, we still have memories to record and visual beauty to impart.
I'm the natural writer, artist, and occassional poet of the family, but my brother is the natural photographer. Whether he picks up another camera again or not, he always will be a natural photographer.
