4 of 5 cheetah cubs that we observed during 2 mornings with their mother.

On the second morning they were traversing a rocky area while their mother was in front looking for prey.

Cheetah mothers are simply incredible in my view.

While ascending to the summit of Rotwand ("Red Wall") near Spitzingsee, Bavaria, these three curious young cows decided to build up a spontaneous roadblock on the trail.

We had to make a small detour :)

A tree lies across the road on the Sangamon County (north) side of the historic Bolivia Road Bridge that spans the Sangamon River between Sangamon and Christian counties in central Illinois. Not visible due to overgrowth is one of two steel barricades erected found at both entrances to the bridge put in place after a single-car accident in 2015 resulted in the structures permanent closure.

This single-lane, steel-and-timber bridge was built in 1901 by engineer J. T. Garrett of St. Louis, Missouri. The bridge's main span is a Parker through truss which is a variation of a Pratt truss but differs from the Pratt in that the top and bottom chord are not parallel. The Bolivia Road Bridge is one of six remaining bridges in Illinois utilizing a Parker through-truss. Most others in the state have been replaced by bridges of reinforced concrete. Steel-truss bridges were a common bridge type of the time and were known for their strength, relative lightness, and durability. The Bolivia Road Bridge is 622 feet in length and the portal bracings of the bridge display ornamental trim and finials at the corners.

The Bolivia Road Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. The bridge was listed on Landmarks Illinois' Ten Most Endangered Historic Places list in 2011.The bridge remained open to traffic until the 2015 accident.

A hazard if you are driving on country roads in NZ!

Why would anybody mind a roadblock in such a heck of a place & beautiful Light...

A normal day in the Himalayas is so full of treasures unlimited...

Not really what you want to experience befre your first cup of coffee.

There were lots of animals on the move today in the Forest. We had to wait until these donkeys passed before we could carry on driving

Rain occurs frequently in Iceland. In most places, that would seriously hamper shooting. But in Iceland, photo opportunities abound. Here a sheep blocks the way on a country road on the Snæfellsnes peninsula.

A new birding spot near the intersection of Darst and Ricefield roads in Beasley, about 30 minutes from the house. “Ricefield” gives it away. Sandhill cranes, geese, and lots of hawks. Plus Brown-headed Cowbirds blocking Darst Road (until a car comes, that is).

On the way home from Khao Yai we were stopped for quite a while by this lady who also wanted to use the road. There wasn't going to be any arguing with her that's for sure!

Thanks for tagging along on my brief trip to Khao Yai. I managed to go again a few weeks later but sadly my camera battery had run out and I didn't even notice!

Today it was a very stormy day with many problems on the road through fallen trees. During the walk it was hard to stay upright and we had to be careful not to get hit by falling branches.

about a week before this 2,5 year old rhino was sent away by its mother who was about to give birth to a new calf.

This one stayed close to our vehicle for quite some time as it was probably lonely.

We found the mother and the newborn calf afterwards

Grasshopper

Spotted on the footpath/sidewalk at the front of our house. A small Grasshopper, around 12mm in length. It paused for a moment when confronted by this obstruction (which is Possum poop) before jumping over and disappearing.

None shall pass.

A lady cow standing in the middle of the path on our way from Great Links Tor back to Lydford. The path is what is left of an old tram line system up on the hills to transport peat or whatever they were mining up there back into the valley.

After the first half of our walk was dominated by misty weather the skies opened up a bit for the second half and we could enjoy some incredible long distance views accompanied by the sweet smell of the flowering heather lining the hillsides.

For those interested, here a video of the entire walk: youtu.be/c0qqsrN1pj4

American Alligator

Alligator mississippiensis

Encountered this roadblock crossing the appropriately named Alligator Alley as I was returning towards the parking area near the visitor center. He wasn't budging, and after a several minute standoff, I was seriously considering turning around and going back the long way. Not a good option as the sun had already set, and it was a good mile and a half to go that way. Much to my delight, after a couple more minutes he decided to move on across the path and down into the canal on the other side. Whew!

Circle-B-Bar Reserve, Polk County, FL

Just like you would for a passing train, you wait. When he was ready, he moved on.

A brightly coloured one!

Taken during one of our drives through the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. You can see in this photo how sandy the roads were. We didn't have a four wheel drive but managed quite well with only one incident where we could have become stuck, except Peter knew what to do.

We are heading up north for a few days to visit my brother's grave on the first anniversary of his passing. We are a few days late as my other brother had some medical appointments and we couldn't leave until now. It is so hard to imagine that a year has already passed.

I am pretty sure we will have internet most of the way, so I am sure I will be able to keep up with everyone.
