Yr Eifl is a group of mountains on the north coast of the LlÅ·n Peninsula in Gwynedd, Wales.
It has three summits, each quite separate from the others, and this is often supposed to be the source of the incorrect English name The Rivals. However, the name is merely an anglicised form of Yr Eifl, meaning "the forks" or "the strides".
On a clear day, the views from the top summit reach as far as the Isle of Man, the Wicklow mountains in Ireland and the Lake District, as well as the entire sweep of Cardigan Bay.

Castle set HST GW15 formed of power cars 43188 & 43098 pass the 1879 built signal box at Par and its still plentiful semaphores, with 2P17 1350 Penzance to Plymouth on 5th May 2021. Would have been better with a Fifty on load 6 but you can't have it all....
The sign "No public Toilets Available" on the box window shows the pitfalls of having a 24/7 manned location on a station - it was presumably a source of frequent knocking on the cabin door!
Not much changed by the looks of things since the last time I took a shot with the box in - 39 years ago:

At a location between Bureau Junction and Tiskilwa, IL, two historic routes, both planed for essentially the same purpose, cross. The still used rusted wrought iron bridge of the successful crosses over the path of the failed.
A waterway connecting railroad first came under discussion in June, 1845, at a meeting of civic leaders at Rock Island, Illinois. Conscious of the increasing migration to the West, these men felt a railroad should be built from La Salle, Illinois to Rock Island, to provide an overland link between the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers. Visits were made to Springfield, the Illinois capitol, and a charter was drawn up.
By special act of the Illinois Legislature, the Rock Island and La Salle Railroad Company was incorporated on February 27, 1847, but raising the money to build the line was difficult because people had little faith in a railroad that merely connected two waterways. The organizers took another look at their maps, saw Chicago at the base of Lake Michigan, and decided to petition the Legislature to build the railroad all the way to Chicago. An amended charter was approved by a special Act of the Illinois Legislature on February 7, 1851 and the name was changed to the Chicago and Rock Island Railroad.
The idea to build a canal to join the two rivers arose in 1834, 11 years before the idea for the railroad. It would allow the shipping of heavy and bulky freight where the railroad could not. The proposed canal would create a quick route from Chicago to the Mississippi River cutting 419 miles out of the trip. The construction of the canal was stalled for many years and various reasons and didn’t get underway until September of 1890. The canal was opened for navigation in 1907, many years after the railroad. By that time boats had gotten much bigger and the new larger boats would not fit in the canal. Consequentially the canal was obsolete the day it opened for navigation.
Once the Chicago and Rock Island reached the Mississippi River, they built the first bridge over the Mighty Mississippi. On April 22, 1856, the citizens of Rock Island, Illinois, and Davenport, Iowa, cheered as they watched three steam locomotives pull eight passenger cars safely across the newly completed Chicago and Rock Island railroad bridge over the Mississippi River. The first railroad bridge across the Mississippi was open for business. Now the people of eastern Iowa could reach New York City by rail in no more than forty-two hours. The C&RI decided to keep heading west and became the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific RR.
The Rock Island RR and the Hennepin Canal travel next to each other for a while passing through the small towns of Bureau Junction, Tiskilwa, and Wyanet before the distance between them widens.
Today the canal is a state historic parkway. The railroad is still in use, owned and operated by the Iowa Interstate Railroad.
