Word out of Marquette is that Empire produced its final pellets yesterday, August 3. It will take a number of weeks to draw down the stockpiles seen in this view taken on July 16 when the plant was still operating.

The last picture of Blacky :-( Only a few days ago poor Blacky had his back ripped, Possibly Blackbird wars. He could still fly and looked like he might recover but a couple days later I found him waiting for me under our doorsill. looking like septicemia had set in but after a while he perked up ate some soaked mealworms and managed to fly into the hedge. The next morning as I opened the back door he flew down to my feet and laid on the ground. I put some food under him and he ate quite a lot and after sometime he managed to fly over the fence. two hours later he came back fed by my feet and went back over the fence never to return. His partner has been sitting on the neighbours garage for most of the two days since. Blacky was a special bird in many ways. Differant and smarter than all the other blackbirds. He always came running towards me when I shouted come on Blacky. Took my first pictures of him in 2017 when he was feeding his fledglings so he must have been over 8 years old which is a long life for a Blackbird.

My dad had to put his down down last week. She was only with us for a mere 5 and a half years. She will be missed...
In the Hudson Valley there are a decent number bits of artwork dedicated to Washington Irving's iconic character. This one I think is one of the more unique in that is was carved right out of a boulder on top of Hunter Mountain the tallest peak in the Catskills.

Legendary Swedish actress Anita Ekberg, immortalised by her performance in Federico Fellini's 1960 film "La Dolce Vita", died on Sunday near Rome. She was 83. The voluptuous film star died in a hospital just outside the Italian capital, according to the website of the daily La Repubblica, which broke the story. A former Miss Sweden, she was branded a "sex goddess" for her performance in Federico Fellini's 1960 movie. Ekberg was born in the southern Swedish port of Malmö, but had spent much of her life in the US and had been a longtime resident of Italy in the years before her death. She had been in hospital since Christmas following a series of illnesses.
The Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) is Rome’s largest and most famous fountain. The flamboyant baroque ensemble was designed by Nicola Salvi in 1732 and depicts Neptune’s chariot being led by Tritons with sea horses – one wild, one docile – representing the moods of the sea. The water comes from the aqua virgo, a 1st-century-BC underground aqueduct, and the name Trevi refers to the tre vie (three roads) that converge at the fountain. The famous custom is to throw a coin into the fountain, thus ensuring your return to the Eternal City. According to the same tradition if you throw in a second coin you’ll fall in love with an Italian, while a third will have you marrying him or her. The €3000 or so that is thrown away on an average day is hoovered up daily and donated to charity.
Rip often exudes confidence. She's the only female of the five goats at Wright-Locke Farm. I'll be tending to them on Tuesday morning, and the following few Tuesdays after that.
