This came to me for repair. The Frostwave pedals are really well built and well thought out. They also sound great. This ring modulator can provide smooth tremolo effects at low frequency settings and ring modulate all the way past the audible range at HF. Plus it has a CV in and a second modulation input with blend knob. Try one if you can find one. They are cool! I don't want to give this one back.
So, the signal would pass when bypassed, but not when active. Full bypass as evidenced by the DPDT footswitch, power light comes on, no output. No diagram, no desire to reverse engineer. (actually, I would love to clone one of these for myself, but I didn't try). So I decided to poke my organic temperature probe tool around inside (finger). U8 was hot, too hot for any normal operation. So I grabbed one out of my parts box on a hunch, soldered it in and away we go! I got lucky. I didn't follow up to see what U8 (TL072) was doing in the circuit. I figure some input was overloaded with a hot signal, or maybe it just died. Either way, here is a peek under the bonnet.

This is a prototype ring modulator based on a 565 PLL chip, there is a 3 position switch for the sweep center frequency, a tone switch to kill some of the high frequency, a mix pot and an external carrier null pot to trim out the carrier. The foot pedal sweeps the oscillator frequency. It is based on a Craig Anderton design.

As sad as it looks, it works. This was my first prototype ring modulator. It has been through several revisions. Still based on the 565 PLL chip. This model had a clean loop for effects.

The pedal is a modified Anderton ring modulator based on the 565 PLL chip. I used a 4558 op amp or similar. All components (except for the 565) were salvaged from other equipment. The case probably came from a Dunlop Crybaby wah.

This patch made something like an octave effect with the phaser and ring mod.
First some distortion.
Audio from the Ring Mod to the Phaser.
Aux Out on the Phaser to Carrier In on the Ring Mod.
Ring Mod LFO Out to Amount on the Phaser.
Pay no attention to the blue cable, that wouldn't have had any effect.
This is really just a ring modulation effect combining both the normal and aux outputs from the phaser.

12 output Oscillator+bent=WTF?!
A completed ring modulator that had been in the works for a while. I had issues with the power supply I chose. I used a voltage divider for a +/- 9 volts or so, so the ground wasn't really ground. For some reason the switchmode HP laptop supply would shut down if the ground pin on the AC cord was grounded to equipment that it was connected to. (At least that seemed to be the fix, cut the ground)
The pedal features a carrier null pot, a ring modulation level pot, a 3 way frequency range switch, and a HF cut switch. The carrier frequency is set with the pedal mechanism. This is another 565PLL Anderton circuit.
