gridded sb cam L, gridded sb cam R red filter, sb into DIY ringlight front

This was 2 seconds to set up my camera during the ImagineUSA expo. My friend shoot behind the Interfit Ring light and I took this with the lowly 40mm pancake. I think I'm going to buy this light.

While Greg and Vic were busy lighting themselves with ringlights, flashlights, and strobes, I was able to steal a few moments with the lovely Atomic Queso.

Thanks Kim!

Day 250 (v 9.0) - regularly irregular

I had not one but TWO Stormtroopers in my studio!

Had fun shooting them! and perfect timing for my ringlight! Used it as background this time, but will soon experiment with it, the right way. Still trying to figure out how I will mount a 4feet, around 7-9pounds ring light.. LOL

My DIY ringflash, see the workflow for more info and descriptions.

Hanimex CX-25 through the DIY umbrella diffuser from above. Hard to say the power level of the flash because it doesn't have any scale for now. ;) Background is the same white fabric that I used as a diffuser on the righflash and also with the umbrella. Shot with Nikon D2H + Nikkor 50mm/1.8D, flash connected to the camera thru the DIY multi flash sync box (for safe sync because the flash is with high trigger voltage).

I setup a quasi ring flash with the foam core around the lens and the SB-26 and 580EX on either side firing into it. Because there is no eye in the photo to show a catchlight, the square sheet worked fine. I added the other sheets on either side of that to further fill in the large chrome nuts on either end of the string mount.

The SB-26 to the left with the big starburst is firing up into the ceiling to fill the top of the string mount as well as the strings and neck further down. Two more SB-26s are fired into the table to light it up, because it was getting kind of dark down there. I put a gobo on the right flash because it was lighting up the neck and the chrome tuning knobs that are closest to the camera in this shot.

I shot at 1/40th to 1/200th of a second and from F16 to F11. I Also worked between ISO 100 and 200--it just depends on the shot. I would lower the shutter speed to bring in some ambient, and closed down the aperture to make the blacks go black.

I put the camera on a tripod so I could play with light position and the camera settings until I got the light I wanted.

There is something strange with the ringlight reflection in her right eye. Can't explain...

my First Ringlight shoot ( not ringflash/rounsflash)

We used to play a lot of board games when my son was much younger, but we seem to have gotten out of the habit.

Here are a few of the playing pieces that I painted from Super Dungeon Explore for the Macro Monday theme of 'Painted'.

HMM!

More fun with the ring light. Used all continuous lighting. The continuous lighting is definitely very freeing...in the sense that you can shoot as fast as you want for as long as you want without having to wait for recycle times or deal with radio trigger problems.

This is a shot of one of my classical guitars. I've tried to emphasize the curves of the instrument, which have often been compared to those of a woman.

Bev is fond of posting poems with her photos. IMHO the one below by Frances Cornford sums up my feelings.

Strobist: AB Ring Light directly over the subject set at 1/8th power fired with a sync chord.

The Guitarist Tunes Up

With what attentive courtesy he bent

Over his instrument;

Not as a lordly conqueror who could

Command both wire and wood,

But as a man with a loved woman might,

Inquiring with delight

What slight essential things she had to say

Before they started, he and she, to play.
