One of the more beautiful things about a giraffe is its skin but mainly the pattern that it has. What I found really great after being quite close to the giraffe was how loose and wrinkly it was. I chose to take the shot so that the archweay framed the animal and then waited until the lighting hit the giraffe perfectly to highlight the shape and detail in the skin. This was for my project 'Sanctuary' where I chose to look at zoo animals as my final outcome, with my final piece being black and white film.

Riddle Brothers Ranch National Historic District is part of the historic context of pioneer settlement and the development of the livestock industry in the American West. Walter, Frederick, and Benjamin Riddle were three bachelor brothers who secured home sites and raised livestock in and around the ranch. Migrating from western Oregon, they settled in the early 1900s and built their ranch by gaining control of water in the area.
