There are many reasons behind the Crooked Spire at Chesterfield Parish Church, says our roving reporter, The Shiba.
In the past there have been rumours that when the Spire was built, the Devil sat on it because it was so tall, or that the Spire itself, was so surprise that a virgin was getting married in the church that it bent over for a look and got stuck.
The Church themselves say that it’s due to the use of green unseasoned timber that has warped over time.
However tonight I can exclusively reveal the real reason.
The Magnetic pull of the Moon.
Yes, the pull of the Moon that causes the tides that affect our seas and oceans, has, over the years, been pulling, little by little, at the Spire causing it to bend.
As yet no scientific organisation has taken to study this hypothesis and no one from the church was available for comment.

The Aperture History of Photography byHenri Cartier Bresson - A collection of Cartier-Bresson's work, best known for creating the notion of the "decisive moment". Looking through the book I enjoyed the collection of "odd" and/or "different" people he photographed.His attention to geometry and patience when photographing produced amazing moments, with excellent composition.
You invest a lot in a camera System. Not just money but time learning all its nuances. If I were buying Anew, I would be investing in Nikon. They are "ahead" right now.
But apparently they aren't ahead "enough." I mean, RedBox shoots Canon. What does it even mean to be ahead when the digital cameras today are head and shoulders above what even the best film could do just a decade ago? When the latest from Nikon can take "bright video in environemnts where you can hardly see"? Amazing.
RedBox loaned me a Mark II to shoot with. It's Canon's previous "flagship" (that term is a little muddy) full-frame SLR, released 4 years ago now.
I've been testing it today and was befuddled by a few things. I think I've solved all the riddles. Here we go.
1) Shots on the Mark II seemed soft at f2.8. I think this is due to (a) the 24-70 L is a tad softer than my normal lenses at f2.8. Resolution tests from Photozone.de show as much. Also, images will look a bit softer at 21MP than 18MP given the same level of lens sharpness.
2) Shots on the Mark II appeared, according to the on-camera histogram, to be underexposed by as much a *full* *stop*. This appears to have been a result of two things: The Auto Lighting Optimizer was turned off on the Mark II, and the image type was set to Faithful rather than Standard. Basically: RedBox has configured the Mark II to do absolutely *nothing* to the RAW except for record it.
For the image type, I think this is reasonable, since it really just affects RAW processing -- mostly color saturation.
For the Auto Lighting Optimizer, I've had to dig a bit. It appears that what this functionality actually does is implemnt Canon's version of a patented image adjustment process called Apical:

This is a much more complicated adjustment than just curves in post, and I think turning it off is a bad plan.

Another riddle for inspiration today.
Birds and the Bees: Two photos, one with me in it, one without.Copied the bits that I wanted from one shot, pasted them in the other. It's hard to tell because of the excessive filters I threw on, but I added in fleshy bits on top of my feet (using a picture of steak that I layer masked). The photo was otherwise kind of boring, so I threw on a combo of cutout and poster edges to make it look comic-y.
