Northeast of Mt Hagen, in the very rural Paiya Village, Asaro Mudmen have arrived a day before the annual Paiya Mini Show to show us how they prepared themselves for war – or for exhibition performances, as is more often the case these days.
The tribes of Papua New Guinea agree on very little, but most fear spirits and ghosts, which is what makes the almost-silent approach off a Mudman so eerie for them. The intermittent, rhythmic clacking of the nails is intensely disturbing.

While I was parking my car by the Park for my walk yesterday, I was greeted by a loud rhythmic music with different colors in the air and on those present having a wonderful time! The last time I saw something like this was the year before COVID 19! I have never seen one like it before so I did a little research and learned that this is called the Holi Festival, also known as Spring Festival, Festival of Colors and Festival of Love. BTW...a couple of little girls with hands full of colorful dye did approach me and asked if they could splash some color on me but I politely declined. Thank goodness they asked me first!

Mirada is a dancer at Rhythmic-Expressions in Tempe, AZ. She was one of the dancers who joined us for the Project 52 meetup at Don's studio in Phoenix. Here she is doing her thing in the parking lot. What a perfect backdrop, eh? What? It's not great? Oh, OK. It's where the sun was behind her. We tried to get Don to move it but he wouldn't. Selfish.
