Rhododendron is a genus of 1,024 species of woody plants in the heath family, either evergreen or deciduous, and found mainly in Asia, although it is also widespread throughout the lowland and montane forests of the Pacific Northwest, California, and the highlands of the Appalachian Mountains of North America.

The name Rhododendron comes from the greek words "rodon" which means "rose" and "dendron" which means "tree", hence Rose Tree. Rhododendron flowers are usually produced in trusses.
A year ago, rhododendrons and azaleas are colourful in Belle Vue Park. Hope everyone's keeping safe and well.

Es beginnt eine Phase intensiver, vielfältger und schnell wechselnder Blühereignisse. Im Park blühen viele Rhododendrenarten. Mit der Hauptblüte der Rhododendron catawbiense, die den Hauptbestand im Rhododendrontal bilden, ist für gewöhnlich ab der dritten Maiwoche zu rechnen. Die Pelargonien-Sammlung ist wieder in den Pflanzenschauhäusern zu sehen. Der Blauglocken-baum blüht am Lindenrund!

Rhododendron ferrugineum (alpenrose, snow-rose, or rusty-leaved alpenrose) is an evergreen shrub that grows just above the tree line in the Alps, Pyrenees, Jura, and the northern Apennines, on acid soils.
It is the type species for the genus Rhododendron. It may grow up to 1 m tall and produces clusters of pinkish-red, bell-shaped flowers throughout the summer.
