Die Gothic Revival von einer romantischen Sehnsucht nach einer nicht mehr zurückzuholenden Vergangenheit geprägt.

Delmar Reformed Church, built in the 1800s in a Gothic Revival style. Major additions to the back and to the right of the original church reflect its importance to members in the local community, including many of Dutch colonial descent.

Saturday morning spent with some fleeting sunlight in a Sussex bluebells woodland. This shot was taken when a cloud bank covered the sun. Was quite refreshing to shoot without direct light for a change.

As I watched this landscape transform in front of me it reminded me of a great revival, when we rise from the darkness into the light.

A view looking north on N. Main St. from E. Washington St. on the southeast corner of Bloomington's Courthouse Square. To the left is the old McLean County Courthouse, now a museum. This site was home to three previous courthouses built in 1831, 1836 and 1868. The Great Fire of 1900 destroyed the 1868 courthouse, along with 45 other buildings in the core of downtown Bloomington to little more than smoking rubble.

The courthouse shown here was designed by William Reeves and John M. Baile of the Peoria firm Reeves and Baile. The Classical Revival style structure was completed in 1903.

The fifth and current McLean County Courthouse, a modern design located 2 blocks south of this location, was completed in 1977. The courts were the first to move to the new building but until 1991, general county offices were still housed in the old courthouse. The McLean County Historical Society relocated its museum here in 1988, and today all 4 floors of the building are occupied by the McLean County Museum of History for exhibits, collections storage, and offices.

The McLean County Courthouse and Square was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and encompasses the old McLean County Courthouse and the courthouse-facing sides of Washington St. to the south, Center St. to the west, and Jefferson St. to the north. The historic buildings to the east of the old courthouse on the N. Main St. side of the square were destroyed by fire in the 1985. Today a contemporary office building occupies the site.

This view also shows a large section of the north side of the Courthouse Square on W. Jefferson St., along with the west side of N. Main St. all the way to the tower of the Art-Deco styled Holy Trinity Church at N. Main and W. Chestnut streets. Nearly every building in this view is listed by itself or as part of a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.

Bloomington is the seat of McLean County. It is adjacent to Normal, and is the more populous of the two principal municipalities of the Bloomington-Normal metropolitan area. Bloomington is 135 miles (217 km) southwest of Chicago, and 162 miles (261 km) northeast of St. Louis. The estimated population of Bloomington in 2019 was 77,330, with a metro population of 191,067.

On our way from Nelson to Kelowna, we came across a section of forest previously devestated by fire, the area seemed to be on track to recovery with the green coming back.

A view of the N. State St. side of Champaign's First United Methodist Church. Constructed in 1906, this is the third Methodist Church to occupy the site on the northeast corner of W. Church and N. State St. The stone church is built in the English Gothic Revival style and replicated the 1889 brick church that it replaced. The architectural firm commissioned for the project was Bullard and Bullard of Springfield, and the work was completed by local contractor English Brothers. The total cost of building was approximately $60,000 in 1909.

In 1964, the sanctuary underwent dramatic modernization. The original layout and detailing was lost as the new entrance and wood paneled balcony were constructed. However, the exterior remains substantially intact, complete with its magnificent gargoyles perched form the bell tower.

Located in Champaign County in east central Illinois, the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana are the home of the University of Illinois. The population of the City of Champaign at the 2020 census was 88,302, while Champaign County had a population of 205,865.

Came across this architectural beauty a few weeks ago about a mile from a great abandoned house and farm I visited. I'm not sure the style, perhaps colonial with some federal elements perhaps? All I know,is that its good to see the time, care, and money that has been put into this beauty in rural northern Illinois...

I got some info on this wonderful old house from an Instagram contact. It is called "Everlasting House" and was built in 1860-67.It took so long to build because of the large stone blocks that had to be hauled to the site. It was rumored to be a part of the Underground Railroad, with the cupola used as a lookout...

How did your weekend go? Despite the bad weather predictions we decided to roll the dice and hit the shore yesterday. That short window of time when the sun was blasting golden light on to the city was worth the fact that we needed to get up at 4 am. I decided to go with long exposure and use the water and cloud texture to emphasize the city. What do you think?

The divisions of one into many are caused by light and shade,

and if we looked keenly into life,

both within and without,

we should realize clearly that it is one life,

one light,

which appears divided and made into many by different shades.

The last time I hiked to this river it was completely dry. Finally after 2 months of drought the rivers were revived with inches of rain and melting snow. It was nice to visit and be able to shoot long exposure again :)

Built between 1892 and 1897 during the time of the Reichsland Elsass-Lothringen (1870–1918), the church was designed for the Lutheran members of the Imperial German garrison stationed in Strasbourg.

I'm surprised this kind of path or road was built in the 1930s. It's miniscule by DC standards but would probably still be an open road in Philly. Today it's closed by bollards and is wonderful pedestrian path.

One does not need to clean up after a storm. This fallen tree is even more beautiful than the original: when branches become trees!
