Osaka's Sumiyoshi Taisha (住吉大社, "Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine") is one of Japan's oldest shrines. Founded in the 3rd century before the introduction of Buddhism, it displays a unique style of shrine architecture, called Sumiyoshi-zukuri, that is free of influence from the Asian mainland. Only two other shrine architecture styles are also considered purely Japanese: Shinmei-zukuri as seen at the Ise Shrines and Taisha-zukuri as seen at Izumo Taisha.

The Rajput princes, who were great art patrons, invited skilled artisans from other parts to settle down in their principalities. This royal patronage was one of the main reasons the artisans could work with single-minded devotion towards enhancing the quality of their craft. The Rajputs commissioned goldsmiths, printers and dyers, painters, potters, stone carvers, and weavers of cotton and silk to produce works of art for them and rewarded them handsomely when they excelled in their craft. It is a legacy that lives on in Rajasthan. Each region has unique crafts, and every little town and village has its share of lanes where craftspersons hold sway. It is this treasure trove that tourists are privileged to discover, be it in a modern shopping centre in a big town or a traditional bazaar in a small village.

A most popular spot in the Cobb County area, the Marietta Diner has been around forever it seems. Shot from across the highway at just 1/30th of a second. Yes, I can be steady when I try!

Is it a kind of symptom that you are getting old when you find these happening?

When you like Beatles instead of Lady Gaga.

When you love retro style rangefinder instead of modern DSLR.

When you find vintage colours more appealing than the boring silver on the cars.

This is the tail lights of a car I saw in my neighbourhood. Could you guess the make of the car? It is a retro remodel and I put the answer in my tags.

Happy weekend!

The corn poppy, also known as the Flanders poppy or Papaver rhoeas, is a vibrant red wildflower that is commonly found in fields and meadows. It is known for its distinctive bright red petals with a dark black or purple spot at the base. The corn poppy is a symbol of remembrance and is often associated with World War I, particularly in the poem "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands, we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

This beautiful flower typically blooms in late spring or early summer and can be found in various parts of the world, including Europe and North America. Its striking appearance and cultural significance make it a beloved wildflower for both aesthetic and symbolic reasons.
