Like a sci-fi Fortress of Justice, retrofuturistic Florence courthouse rises over the city. The future is yesterday.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind? Percy Bysshe Shelley
Delicate spring blossoms reach toward a radiant blue sky, their soft petals glowing under the warm sunlight.
Pause, feel a gentle breathing space where nature blooms effortlessly, untouched by time.
Wisps of clouds drift peacefully, enhancing the dream-like quality of this fleeting moment.
Through the lens of vintage film, the simple beauty of spring becomes eternal.
Well my first slab SHIP is done, a tribute to Syd Mead and all things retro-future, 1970s through 1980s. It weighs in at around 104 studs. Overall I'm kinda ok with it; there's some stuff I'm really happy with but lots of things I think are a bit meh. Is it kinda boring, too simple? Does it need more detailing or less? I think I have a fair way to go with trying to capture something sleek and minimal in Lego space. It's an aesthetic I love but can't seem to ever capture.
Anyway, it's done and I've got two more in drydock. I'll post a couple more pics in the next few days.
Nick Nova's Spaceship is my entry for the LEGO Moments in Space Contest on LEGO Ideas. You can vote for it from February 9-19, 2018 for a chance to become a Gift with Purchase set in 2019.
If you can't wait that long, you can download the LEGO Digital Designer model file for free at Rebrickable.
In this episode of The Amazing Adventures of Nick Nova, rampaging robots from Planet X are invading Earth! Nick Nova, in his steadfast spaceship, must travel through the most dangerous domains of space, avoiding asteroids and navigating nebulas, to reach the secluded source of these atrocious automatons. Will Nick Nova be able to mitigate the malevolent machinations of the mysterious mastermind behind these marauding mechanical monsters?
The entire set is 168 pieces and consists of Nick Nova, his spaceship, a photon blaster, and a robot from Planet X. The photon blaster can be stored in the back of the spaceship.
This model is an homage to the many cheesy sci-fi shows and movies I watched while in college. It was a great way to relax and decompress after long hours of studying and grueling exams. These many moments in space helped me to achieve my goal of becoming a Mechanical Engineer, designing real spacecraft, and creating moments in space to inspire others.
In our dreams there is a path. Everyone has their own. Like the white feather of Truth weighed against our heart our path through our field is the straight and narrow.
Sketchbook, formulas, PhotoWizard, DistressedFX blending modes++ lots and lots of blending modes.

"In the early days, thousands were spared the horrors of the holocaust by taking refuge in enormous underground shelters, known as vaults. But when they emerged, they had only the hell of the wastes to greet them ...”

Yes, it's blurry, but I've used some new software to make it as Flickr-worthy as possible. I really love the groovy lettering on the giant lottery machine, the traditional popcorn machines, the wood paneling and the 1950s futuristic lighting fixtures which looked like copper UFOs with lightning bolts shooting out below them. Those 1950s style round air ducts bring back memories as well.
The menu in the upper background didn't list anything vegan, gluten-free, holistic, sushi, or any form of Tex-Mex, which hadn't reached the East Coast yet. (burrito.. what's a burrito?)
This view shows the interior of the original Turnpike rest stops as they were designed by architects in the mid 1950s.
Today, all this is just a memory and the rest stops now resemble small mega-malls with numerous restaurants, stores and enormous parking lots.

This view looks east toward the Morris Canal as well as the new World Trade Center and the Manhattan skyline in the distance. Liberty State Park is on the right. It's a REAL development already in the works called "The Cove".
Below is how the area appeared in 2012, but hasn't changed since then. The site is mostly vacant brownfields with a tidal ditch at the end of the Morris Canal to the left of the view that receives sewer outfall.

I'm using a prompt vocabulary mashup using a birdhouse foundation to design whimsical treehouses. Here was one of the better examples.
