The Thunderbird is one of Ford's greatest nameplates, having been introduced as Ford's first 'sportscar' in 1955.

Ford used this original, first generation Thunderbird for the inspiration for the retrofuturistic eleventh generation Thunderbird in 2002. This extended even to the palette of pastel colours available on the series. Less effort was made in styling the interior with the period theme, and the car shared much visible hardware with its DEW98 platform brother, the Lincoln LS. Theis platform was also used on the retro-themed Jaguar S-Type stablemate.

This eleventh generation 2002 Thunderbird convertible (and optional hardtop) has been modelled in Lego miniland scale for Flickr LUGNuts' 81st build challenge, - 'Generation Gap', - featuring vehicles that have been produced in more than one generation (eleven in the case of the Thunderbird).

This model had also been part of a buddy challenge with Ralph Savelsberg (Mad Physicist), his entry being the forth generation 1966 Thunderbird featured in the film 'Thelma & Louise'.

This model also happens to be the first brick-built model I made in nearly two years - wow!

The Holden Hurricane is a 2 seat concept built in 1969 and is a pretty radical concept for an Australian company in the 60’s.

The car was packed with cutting edge technologies for the time including an early form of GPS, a rear view camera, digital instrumentation, automatic climate control and an auto seek radio. The Hurricane had a 4.2 litre, mid mounted V8 and was 990mm high (39 in for the imperial folk).

In my opinion this is a good example of retrofuturism.

The bright façade of a modern showroom showcases electric vehicles against a digital backdrop, channeling the futuristic vibes synonymous with late 20th-century optimism and innovation.

©Retrofuturs, a graphic company UN says eat less meat to curb global warming

The UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation has estimated that meat

production accounts for nearly a fifth of global greenhouse gas

emissions. These are generated during the production of animal feeds,

for example, while ruminants, particularly cows, emit methane, which

is 23 times more effective as a global warming agent than carbon

dioxide. The agency has also warned that meat consumption is set to

double by the middle of the century.

From this Russian posting on Livejournal:

retro-futurism.livejournal.com/502077.html

this is from the april 21, 1961 issue of Life magazine. most of the issue is devoted to yuri gagarin, who had just returned to earth, and americans (judging from the tone of the articles) were FREAKING OUT that the soviets had beaten them to space. much of the issue reads like a study of a national identity crisis. so, life tried to pick up everyone's spirits by running a few drawings of what OUR spaceships would look like, if we ever got around to building any.

i scanned this in so i could add it to the new "In the Year 2000" retrofuturism group.

the magazine was still large format back then, so the pages don't really fit in my scanner. sorry.

A while ago I decided to create a few ray guns, just for the fun of it.

Materials used: vintage saw handle, vase, part from an old sowing machine, 'speculaas' (= Dutch cookie) mold and some other bits and pieces…

I'm all into retro-futurism, so in addition to being the buildings from Wilco's "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" album cover, they're also some remnants of an age where architects dared to dream of crazy, futuristic changes to how we all live. Most of it didn't catch on, but the bit that did and stayed I love.
