I am always impressed at how they find that one sliver of sun to rest and recharge their batteries. We should learn to follow their lead.
When the ground is wet and there are no big logs to sit on, these are a welcome sight to an old man.
It's Sunday and the day of rest.
Before sailing I must rest,
For the waves will soon be my test.

On dark damp day, my reflective mood brought me to the churchyard of All Saints' Church. The doctor who brought me into this world is buried here with her husband. I don't remember her slapping me on the bottom. but little doubt she did. This is a much older tomb, one of a few that I saw today.

All Saints' Church, is in Childwall, Liverpool, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is the only medieval church remaining in the Metropolitan borough of Liverpool. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Liverpool.

This is an example of how rapidly the landscape has changed over the past few years. The old fishing hut which used to be strewn with old nets is now a pile of wood and the winch hut to the right of the boat has perished. I used a long lens to compress the scene.
There were a couple of young raccoons at the place we were staying near Charlevoix, Michigan last week. They would climb this apple tree, eat their fill of apples and then hang out and rest for a while.
Right before sunset the shadows of the High Line's cast iron wall fall on a "peel-up" bench. These benches look like they are "peeling up" from the floor and were specially designed for the High Line, "a 1.45-mile-long elevated linear park, greenway and rail trail created on a former New York Central Railroad spur on the west side of Manhattan in New York City." It was the middle of the afternoon and rest time for some of the animals on the Kilimanjaro Safari ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom. I photographed this high ISO shot of the Rhino from a moving vehicle in deep shade.
Several years ago I wandered through one of our local cemeteries. I came upon this small chapel among the graves and headstones.
I thought it made a respectful and lovely image.
I've used several effects to arrive at this serene rendering. May all who are in this scene rest in peace.

Our Daily Challenge ... resting.
Since childhood, I have referred to flowers which have closed up for the night, as being "asleep", so I thought it might be a good subject for this challenge. Some research on the internet reveals that they aren't really sleeping ... but in a way, they are resting in that they are conserving energy for daytime activities such as reproduction.
Plants that tuck themselves in for bedtime exhibit a natural behaviour known as nyctinasty. Scientists know the mechanism behind the phenomenon: In cool air and darkness, the bottom-most petals of certain flowers grow at a faster rate than the uppermost petals, forcing the flowers shut. But scientists are not quite sure why some plants, particularly flowers, evolved this way. There are several theories, though.
Charles Darwin believed that plants close up at night to reduce their risk of freezing. Another theory suggests that nyctinastic plants are conserving energy — and perhaps their odour — for the daytime when pollinating insects are most active.
Some scientists believe that this behaviour prevents pollen from becoming wet and heavy with dew. Insects can more easily transfer dry pollen, improving a nyctinastic plant's likelihood of successful reproduction.
