Docker's Rest, by Terry Bradley and Friz. Located at Hickson’s Point in Titanic Quarter
A painting to represent the strong ties that the men of Belfast’s Harland & Wolff shipyard built between each other as they walked and drank together around Belfast’s shipyard and the terraced streets that surrounded it.
The port of Belfast was the major port of Ireland in its day, an important stopping off place for sailors from across the world. The men worked hard and played hard. This piece was commissioned by Titanic Belfast to be reproduced outside their on-site bar and restaurant ‘Hicksons Point’ as a large wall mural and recreated by well known local muralist Friz.
My husband and I are headed out for a little rest and relaxation this long weekend. We're spending a few days at his sister's cottage on Lake Erie. I'm looking forward to it and can't wait to read this book...One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. I bought it a couple weeks ago and have resisted starting it...but I'll be cracking it open tomorrow afternoon. I love reading but haven't really read a book in a long time. I find it hard to sit for long periods of time...it's like I always need to be doing something. But for the next few days I'll be resting, reading, spending time with my husband and of course taking a few pictures here and there :-)

The town of Thira in Santorini, Greece sits almost 1000 feet above the sea. To get there from sea level, one can ride the mules (who will rub their rider's legs against the stone walls) or climb the winding manure covered stone path, or one can pay 4 euros to take the cable car up.

It's always a source of annoyance when you have every opportunity in the world to take pictures of unusual local vehicles, ignore them or procrastinate then one day they're gone. Working as I did a mere few minutes from Graham's Sandyford garage, his ex Maidstone & District Leyland Panther was an every day sight. Sadly I only ever bagged about two or three shots of it which weren't particularly good as this one of it on a poor day and in shadow exemplifies.
As mentioned in a recent posting, Graham had begun his business working out of Lawton Hall, but in the late '70s moved to Sandyford near Tunstall, Stoke on Trent. Later having out grown the above, he moved again to Talke to a site behind what is now the Shell garage at the roundabout junction of the A500 and A34.
From memory Willowbrook bodied Panther JKK 181E didn't make the last move, rather it was acquired by BC Travel of Stoke. Graham always referred to it in less than complimentary tones, on one occasion stating it to be 'the bus that nearly broke him'! That said, it's seen here in the typically pristine condition typified by the whole fleet.
