Almost at its destination of Gembrook, 12A starts rolling down the hill towards Belgrave-Gembrook road with a lineside wood collecction train.
Suffering with a misbehaving injector, the train had paused at the top of the hill (to the left of shot, in the gap between the trees) to give the faulty injector a chance to cool down. Once it had recovered enough, more water was pumped into the boiler and the brakes were lifted, allowing it to roll gently downhill into town.

"When we say things like "people don't change" it drives scientists crazy because change is literally the only constant in all of science. Energy. Matter. It's always changing, morphing, merging, growing, dying.
It's the way people try not to change that's unnatural. The way we cling to what things were instead of letting things be what they are. The way we cling to old memories instead of forming new ones. The way we insist on believing despite every scientific indication that anything in this lifetime is permanent.
Change is constant.
How we experience change that's up to us. It can feel like death or it can feel like a second chance at life. If we open our fingers, loosen our grips, go with it, it can feel like pure adrenaline.
Like at any moment we can have another chance at life. Like at any moment, we can be born all over again."

It's been a long time since my last posting. Truth is I lost my mojo.
Now I think that I can feel something happening. By way of a restart here is an out of focus picture of a primrose. Flickr's automated tags describe it as "blur" "abstract". They've got that right!

I had stepped away from dslr photography for awhile. Shooting only on vacations. Now I'm back. Living just north of NYC lin the age of Covid-19 has kept me indoors for the most part for the last few weeks. Here's a shot from my first stab at flash photography in a long while.
The lightbeams are an accident. One that i liked. There was a window with a blind diagonally behind the subject. i believe the lightbeams are the result of flash bouncing off the small amount of glass visible between the blind and the window frame.
EDIT: Adding flash info/camera settings
82mm, 1/200th/sec, f8, SB900 - no umbrella or other diffusion device. Flash exposure dialed down to 1 stop under exposure. Flash triggered by Nikon Commander Mode.
Nikon SB-900 on a flash stand diagonally behind models right shoulder (left shoulder as you're viewing the photo). Exposure was set on the flash to be -1.0 exposure.
The flash head was raised to model's head height but aimed indirectly (peripherally at the side and to the back of the model's head so we ended up with the hot highlights on the neck and so forth. White walls, a blind and a window diagonally behind provided some bounce light. I believe the window is responsible for the lightbeam (i.e. they were not added in photoshop).
This is the start of me playing around with old style
Hollywood publicity/glamour photo style. Model wasn't dressed for it but not needed for this round while I figure out flash and lighting.

Most FGW/GWR HSTs pass through Dawlish these days but a few services still stop throughout the day. This HST is applying power about to restart from the station.
Every year tens of thousands of salmon make there journey from the ocean back to rivers and streams to lay eggs and die and restart the cycle of life. In northern California they traverse rivers that were once wild and now have a series of spillways to help the salmon get up and downstream however some of the fish still attempt a twenty feet leap to try to cross the dam. At Oroville it is amazing to watch these thirty plus pound fish keep trying again and again to make there way home. Kind of fun to zoom in on this one.
