The Recycle Yourself Project is meant to invoke an emotion and discussion about such issues as Overpopulation, Pollution, Ecosystem Destruction Humans responsibility to the Environment, Culture Jamming, Art intervention and Anti-Commercialism/over-consumption.
The Recycle Yourself Philosophy
For billions of years the earth has recycled the life that has existed on it. Through a natural cycle. At one time the Human race followed that natural cycle. The humans lived hand and hand with the environment taking and giving back to the land. Even after death humans at one time gave their actual bodies back to the planet to decay in a natural way. Over time mankind has forgotten about our beautiful planet and how it created the life that exists on it. Then comes the age of the industrial revolution and corporations built upon mass consumerism. Marketing companies assault us ever day. By the time you are 5 years old you've already had 200,000 images planted into your brain from television and ad campaigns. This false reality is built and constructed into our minds to appear that if its sold on tv there is an unlimited supply. Buy buy buy this constructed ads tell us that there is nothing wrong with this behavior. The status quo is a false reality.
The real reality
Humans have already started what will be known as the 6th mass extinction on our planet. This has been created by the abuse we've done in the last 300 years to our mother earth.
The western mindset has infected the entire planet. Kill, rape and pillage, give nothing back. Even in death humans turn themselves in plastic wrapped corspe's that seep poisons into the ground that in turn effect our drinking water. Cancer, disease, and viruses are a by-product of our planet trying to control this over consumerism culture. Mother earth will win this war in the end but it will be at the expense of all forms of life on our planet. Education is the only thing that will change this behavior. If you want to climb the mountain you don't just jump to the top. This change needs to happen in steps. The first is being aware of such steps. If humans so selfishly ignore these warning signs. Some day there will be no fish in the sea, no birds in the sky, no whales in the ocean, no dogs to follow their masters, no flowers to bloom, no bees to pollinate them. This is a reality.
Now you have to ask yourself?
Do you want to be responsible for a dead planet?
Educate
Reduce
Reuse
Recycle Yourself!
It took two and a half hours to get this one and only shot after the sun failed to shine at just the right time. However, it shone for just the right train as TXL 193 553 "Responsibility Driven" leads 189 932 on DGS 40561 Padborg - Verona Q.E as it passes Aßling with a consist that includes Lauritzen, "Bech-Hansen & Studsgaard", DSV, Arcese, N&K Spedition, Blue Water and "Nagel Group" piggypacks in tow
From the archives, of course.
I just couldn't help it but snap a couple of shots as I saw this little girl starting at me... don't know what she was thinking, but a lot of thoughts went thru my mind... the hair on her face, her expression, those bags in her hand as if she's been carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders.. found it very compelling within those few seconds..

A child labourer, the helper of a truck parked on the highway, was silhouetted in the sunlight as I approached the windshield of the truck as I was taking the picture, the shadow seeming to be shadowed by his age and family responsibilities.
One responsibility of a parent is to teach their children how to use a filter when speaking to other people. It is a process to have them learn that the first thoughts they have are probably ones that are better left unsaid.
Children have an uncanny ability to spot an anomaly in another child or even an adult. Most of us have had times of embarrassment when one of our small children made an accurate, but ill-advised observation about someone’s appearance.
Growing up, this Blue Heron might have been on the receiving end of some catcalls about the abnormal length of his neck. Even at my age, I found myself remarking to my wife that I had never seen such a long neck on a heron.
There are a couple of reasons heron’s necks are marvelously shaped. They have anywhere from 21-25 vertebrae in their necks, twice as many as we humans do. Along with specialized vertebrae, this enables them to sport an “S” shape with their long necks.
This ability helps them aerodynamically when they fly and is one of the characteristics most of us use to readily identify them when they pass overhead.
However, their greatest use of the make-up of their neck comes from a coiling effect when hunting. The bird stores energy in the coiled “S” curve and then releases it in a rapid thrust to impale or capture prey, both in water as well as elsewhere.
Between the bill of the heron and the length of its neck, when it strikes, the neck and bill can reach nearly two feet as they pursue their meals.

Shooting people portraits comes very naturally to me. At least up until the point I'm actually getting paid to do it. I've got a tendency to stiffen up in these settings, and even get a bit frantic when things go off track. And so it was in a session I did with Katey for her senior portraits. A huge responsibility actually, the senior portrait thing. You really want to capture the essence of the person on the cusp of transitioning from high school to the rest of their life. You are quite literally creating a visual documentation that they can look back on for the rest of their life. So yeah, no pressure here.
The challenge for me in this situation is coming in stone cold, never having met the subject and knowing next to nothing about them. I've come to rely mostly on instinct while trying to steadily build rapport and put them at ease. Katey looked impossibly young when I first met her, more like a freshman than a senior. But I soon found that her facial expression had a dramatic impact on her look. The initial photos in the session revealed her girlish side. As the shoot progressed I stopped trying to get her to smile and just went with the flow. We moved on to a nature preserve for the final series. Walking along a trail I suddenly stopped in front of this field of prairie grass. The light and setting seemed perfect. Katey stepped into the scene and it all felt right. My initial nervousness vanished. I felt totally at ease and confident. I always shoot many multiples of the same pose in the knowledge that even a subtle variation in facial expression can transform a portrait. Reviewing the results later, this shot really stood out from the others. Katey had somehow transformed from from a teenager into an older version of herself. There's a sense of serenity on her face, and a lovely Mona Lisa smile that falls somewhere between serious and happy. In this moment it felt like we were in perfect sync.
Although the temp was rising steadily, the horses still need a warm-up time before training...This student was caught during lock-down and travel bans...It must be very lonely as she actually leaned forward and called out, "Hey!"
