San Salvador de la Punta Fortress is a fortress in the bay of Havana, Cuba.
La Punta, just like El Morro was designed to protect the entrance to the Havana Bay that became an important and strategic entranceway to the harbor since the settlement of the town. The nonstop landings of corsairs in the area endangered the harbor and the town. That was why in 1559 it was resolved to post lookouts at La Punta.
In 1582 the king Felipe II, convinced that it was necessary to reinforce fortresses and fleets, ordered the creation of a fortress system in several places of America having its center in Havana.
To fulfill the task Juan de Tejeda was appointed governor of the island, because of his expertise in the matter of fortifications. He brought along the Italian engineer Juan Bautista Antonelli, who has been considered the most renowned professional to practice in 16th century Cuba. The works began by 1590 and went on slowly. In 1595 a hurricane severely damaged the fortress, among other reasons, due to the thinness of its walls that were then more solidly rebuilt. By 1602 there was such a delay in the construction work that the engineer decided to make the fortress into a keep holding some 10 to 12 artillery pieces. Finally, as the years went by it was taken apart, leaving just 3 bastions.
In 1630, due to the short distance between La Punta and El Morro and to increase the protection of the bay, a heavy copper chain was laid between them. This chain can be appreciated in some of the engravings of that time.

The Wesleyan Sunday School anniversary here took place on Sunday and Monday October 21 and 22 in the Monarto Council Chamber.
On Monday a public tea was held in the same place, which was fairly well patronised.
The Sunday School children met about 11 o'clock, took lunch about half-past 12, and then indulged in all kinds of games until about 4 o'clock, when they had tea, oranges. and everything that children could enjoy.
At the public meeting at 7 o’clock the hall was crammed.
The children sang some beautiful songs in a very creditable manner, and also gave recitations and dialogues in fine style, the programme being well received.
Some very interesting addresses were given by the Revs A Law, Isaiah Longmore, Messrs A Champion and H S Dunn JP.
After the public meeting a supper was laid, which all present seemed to do justice to, the provisions being sent down by Mr R Murray, of Mount Barker, who as usual, gave every satisfaction. The proceeds of the anniversary were very good. Ref: Mount Barker Courier and Onkaparinga and Gumeracha Advertiser (SA) Friday 2 November 1888.

This is a candidate for my Water Works Photo Set series. It seems the ripples are rising with the breeze. The grasses along the bank are burned and sere; The sky just shows in the slight ripples and keeps it as part of the image was probably best in this shot when I returned to visit old haunts. We have been subject to some days with dud skies and I was determined to take advantage of happening skies. The breeze generated the rippled reflections on the water around the snags. Seasons were a'changing; I have resolved that I had to shoot the details. I am still not willing to let this autumn slip away even though the foliage is largely gone. I made another loop of the path because we had a break in the overcast and some still waters. Drama reflected by the waters.
I needed a lot more exercise because I have spent too much time at the computer. I got a couple of shots of the foliage in the distance but it is deteriorating so I let it go dark but processed like crazy. I guess this scene just grabbed me emotionally for some reason. I think the close-in water looks like textured shower curtain glass and I like it. I decided to recapture earlier shots. I made the most of the clouds. I see too many scenes ruined by flare from blank skies posted on Flickr and feel sorry for their selection of glass on their cameras. I wish they would opt for better single-focal length lenses instead of those 12-16X zooms.
Fall was over; I resolved that my best autumn ever was at a close. I am still not willing to let this autumn slip away and I made another loop of the path because we had a break in the overcast and ripples on the water. In the still visible distance, the flotilla is off to seek better "Ducking" waters. I needed a lot more exercise because I have spent too much time at the computer. I am out here at Golden Ponds, the Longmont, Boulder County greenbelt and rec area and fortunately, the turn-off is only a half-dozen blocks down Hover St. I wanted to look for possible locations even though the sky has been the pits lately. I wandered the green space and took some detail shots that were available, These drying cattails jumped from the background pond. The bold sky is gone, the rippling water gone, the bold clouds gone, my favorite cottonwood, brown and most cattails seeding the next year's supply. I shot few pictures and kept the sky out of the frame but it's presence shows in the water. The colorful autumn foliage is gathering around the ponds and under the water. I love shooting high contrast scenes with this camera and lens.

Eliminate the Title: Police and Cops. And shed all things negative within the active body. Remove all negative ideologies as well. Implement New Title: World Peace Officers. Implement New Uniforms with the main color being Dark Leaf Green with Dark Wood Brown logos, with Symbols, or Designs that show Tree Life, such as a Eagle or Owl Perched in a Tree. Why the colors? Uniform colors should be darker versions of colors because it will maintain a cleaner appearance much better, especially when outdoors. Also, Green stands for Growth, and Green and Brown are the main Colors of Trees. Why the Symbolism? Trees Serve and Protect Life; they help provide Oxygen to Breathe…
and are home to many forms of Life around the world. And sure… applicable persons can teach and repurpose an officers role. But i say… Let the Trees be a Teacher as well, and let them be a constant reminder that people need to Breathe… and that Life needs to Flourish. Buildings for World Peace Officers would not be titled: police stations or precincts. Buildings would be Titled: World Peace Initiative, Sector 1, 2 and so on, and it would read that on the buildings and cars. Buildings and cars would be friendly earth tone colors or similar colors to the uniforms. First building to initiate changes is subtitled Sector 1, the next to initiate changes is Sector 2, third building is Sector 3, and so on. Full title for
example would be World Peace Initiative, Sector 1. And At least two beautiful trees should be planted nearby or in the vicinity of every building and if possible, other plants should be around, including small plants on the desks in the offices inside the building and medium plants next to seating and open spaces to give off an aura of life, and discourage the aura of morbidity. World Peace Initiative’s Slogan for all Sectors would be “Peace is a Virtue.” All cars for Sector One would read “World Peace Initiative: Sector 1” and read “Peace is a Virtue.” under those words. The Buildings would exist all over the world, and be interconnected in communication, purpose, peace efforts, and values...
