I have a few knitting projects I'd like to accomplish this year. This particular project is a scarf I've been working on for two years. I resolve to finish it.

The sitter is probably Fortunato Martinengo Cesaresco, a scholarly nobleman of Brescia. The painting may date from 1542 when he married. Rare ancient coins and the bronze foot suggest the interests of a scholarly collector and were also fit subjects for melancholy reflection. 'Alas, I desire too much' is written in Greek upon his cap badge.

Death Valley's Playa Racetrack is a most magical place! Wikipedia reports: "The Racetrack Playa, or The Racetrack, is a scenic dry lake feature with "sailing stones" that inscribe linear "racetrack" imprints. It is located above the northwestern side of Death Valley, in Death Valley National Park, Inyo County, California, U.S. The Racetrack Playa is 3,714 feet (1,132 m) above sea level, and 2.8 mi (4.5 km) long (north-south) by 1.3 mi (2.1 km) wide (east-west). The playa is exceptionally flat and level with the northern end being only 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) higher than the southern. This occurrence is due to major influx of fine-grained sediment that accumulates at the north end. The highest point surrounding the Racetrack is the 5,678-foot (1,731 m) high Ubehebe Peak, rising 1,964 feet (599 m) above the lakebed 0.85 miles (1.37 km) to the west."

Henry Lyman Saÿen (1875-1918) was an American artist and scientist. This incredibly talented artist created beautiful cubist and fauvist artworks. His paintings incorporated “cubist compositions" and those from other modernist art movements.

Wikipedia reports: "The Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes are at the northern end of the valley floor and are nearly surrounded by mountains on all sides. Due to their easy access from the road and the overall proximity of Death Valley to Hollywood, these dunes have been used to film sand dune scenes for several movies including films in the Star Wars series. The largest dune is called Star Dune and is relatively stable and stationary because it is at a point where the various winds that shape the dunes converge. The depth of the sand at its crest is 130–140 feet (40–43 m) but this is small compared to other dunes in the area that have sand depths of up to 600–700 feet (180–210 m) deep."

I'm experimenting with upsizing some Nikon D800, D800E, & D810 HDR photographs to the 8288 x 5520 or 8256 x 5504 resolution of the Nikon D850! The Pixel dimensions of the Nikon D810 are 7360 × 4912 pixels. The D810's pixel width of 7360 pixels is about 90% of the D850's pixel width of 8256 pixels. Thus, at 90%, it would be hard to tell the difference between photos taken with the two Nikons, except in the very largest prints perhaps! The D810 has 36.3 megapixels or 36 megapixels, while the D850 has 45.7 megapixels, or 46 megapixels.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’ve done this past year. What was rad, what wasn’t. How can I have an ever better time next year? What made me really happy?
At one point, in the summer of 2010 I lived as a wandering, 2 wheeled, transient. For over 2 weeks, Andrew and I cruised around The Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island on our bikes. Camping on cliffs, kayaking on the edge of the Pacific, squatting, jumping off waterfalls and riding our bikes through epic lands. During that time we also worked and ran our design shop. Several amazing friends joined up for different parts of the trip. We rode all sorts of boats and ferries. I love BC ferry rides.
I had my entire life on the back of that bike. We would fly down mountain roads on Vancouver Island at 80km, carving up the road with our silent steeds. There were rivers & lakes everywhere, I wore only shorts and flip flops 90% of the time. The ocean, of course, was ever present. We ate ridiculous amounts of berries, cooked an entire salmon over a fire on the beach of a tiny island on the Pacific Rim, had several bear scares and countless mind bending sunsets. I made business calls while balancing barefoot on gigantic mossy logs in the middle of an ancient forest. We drank delicious bourbon. The ocean would sparkle with bioluminescent plankton ( Unicorn Chum ) every night. Every single minute of every single day was an adventure.
I have never felt so free.
Next year, I want to do much much more of this. And I will.
I wrote this right after I got back and put up some photos:
“Got back on Sunday from a 16 day trip. Took my 24 year old road bike, strapped my camping stuff and laptop to it… and set out to devour this summer. We were transients… wilderness camping, squatting, trespassing and just generally sleeping wherever we could find good spots. We would stop at diners and such to connect through our phones and work on our laptops.
700km of biking, 5 days of kayaking. Awesome times.”
One from the archives ... a whole lot of wishes waiting to be wished for, and granted. And what are New Year's Resolutions, if not wishes of a sort?
I have a couple of resolutions - not terribly profound ones, just ones to try to improve an aspect or two of my life. Have you made any resolutions?
I think Oprah Winfrey's quote is probably the most apt for today:- "Cheers to a New Year and another chance for us to get it right."

that being said, for 2012 i have had a big breakthrough in life.
I will not allow anyone to DEFINE me.
I will be me
i will be the best mom i can
i will love my husband with my whole heart
I will be the caring friend
I will look for the positive in all things
I will keep photography as a joy
I will make relationships with my clients
I will create memories for them
I will not try to be anything other than me
I will not give my art away
I will value the gift God has given me
I will not let anyone tell me i am less than
I will stand up for myself
I will be ok with who i am
and not be ruled by a scale or what the tv shows me
I will define ME.
and i am ok with that.

3 November 2011. Dar El Salaam: UNAMID in collaboration with the North Darfur Committee on Women organizes an open day session on the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security in Dar El Salaam, North Darfur. The purpose of the activity was to discuss the progress made in the State with regards to women’s issues.
The forum, which was attended by 80 participants including Government representatives, women leaders and UNAMID officials, identified the possible impact of the resolution on daily life and key areas including protection, women’s rights, participation in the peace process, training for midwives and socio-economic empowerment.
