... haven't shot flowers in ages, but it's hard to resist the lovely blossoms that are emerging all around town... this was taken last weekend, not sure what these flowers are.

Une lourde pierre résiste encore à la force du courant de ce torrent des Gorges de Ballandaz, Villard du Planay, Savoie (Alpes)

The final sim I walked through was Samara. After spending several hours over several days at the Faire, I just couldn't resist changing back into mundane clothing and taking one more picture, pretending I was wandering back to my car with a well-deserved cup of caffeine.

📍 Samsara - Fantasy Faire 2024

This wasn't an intended destination on this morning but walking by in the almost-dark these lichen encrusted rocks stood out. I liked the little collection and there was some nice colour in the sky for a change - hard to resist.

This variety had big beautiful dark pink blossoms that I couldn't resist. Of course they had to come home with me!

I can't wait to eat them. Hopefully I get to try some before the birds do though. lol

* This is in the Pibeste wildlife reserve near the wellknown town Lourdes. I do not know the name of this tree, but it looks like it is half dry half living. Its windy position makes the living conditions pretty hard !

I built the picture with 3 plans from bottom right to top left, front, back and middle, each with darkgreen hints.

So glad that I went looking for something on my hard drive last night as finding (what I think are) some really nice images from my early morning jaunts to one of the coves in Coverack.

Couldn't resist catching this little girl while we were having a coffee and she was waiting for her lunch to arrive at the next table.

Thank you for your favourites. :O)

This is a bit late for the Xmas photo cycle but I couldn't resist posting this shot taken last year.

I saw this while on a bike ride around the Williamstown area, it is just amazing, so much effort put into this.

This was taken on the eastern side of the "Great Lawn" of Central Park. I took another photo of this young woman to provide more of a wide-angle perspective; click here to see it. Looking back on some old photos from 40-50 years ago, I was struck by how visible the differences were between the culture of then, versus the culture of now. In some cases, it was evident from the things people wore, or carried, or did, back then which they no longer do today. But sometimes it was the opposite: things that didn't exist back in the 1960s and 1970s have become a pervasive part of today's culture.

A good example is the cellphone: 20 years ago, it simply didn't exist. Even ten years ago, it was a relatively uncommon sight, and usually only on major streets of big cities. Today, of course, cell phones are everywhere, and everyone is using them in a variety of culture contexts.

However, I don't think this is a permanent phenomenon; after all, if you think back to the early 1980s, you probably would have seen a lot of people carrying Sony Walkmans, or "boom-box" portable radios -- all of which have disappeared...

If Moore's Law (which basically says that computers double in power every 18 months) holds up for another decade, then we'll have computerized gadgets approximately 100 times smaller, faster, cheaper, and better -- which means far better integration of music, camera, messaging, and phone, but also the possibility of the devices being so tiny that they're embedded into our eyeglasses, our earrings, or a tattoo on our forehead.

So the point of this album is to provide a frame of reference -- so that we can (hopefully) look back 10-20 years from now, and say, "Wasn't it really weird that we behaved in such bizarre ways while we interacted with those primitive devices?"

It was hard to resist taking several pictures of this young woman: she seemed so clean-cut, attractive, and well dressed as she stood in the square while chatting on her cell phone.

She then marched back and forth several paces, then went into the entrance to the 72nd Street subway station, came back out again, marched around, continued chattering on her cell phone, and occasionally glanced at me with a puzzled look as I snapped several pictures. A good ten minutes went by until she finally disappeared for good into the subway station, still chattering away on her cell phone...

This is part of an evolving photo-project, which will probably continue throughout the summer of 2008, and perhaps beyond: a random collection of "interesting" people in a broad stretch of the Upper West Side of Manhattan -- between 72nd Street and 104th Street, especially along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue.

I don't like to intrude on people's privacy, so I normally use a telephoto lens in order to photograph them while they're still 50-100 feet away from me; but that means I have to continue focusing my attention on the people and activities half a block away, rather than on what's right in front of me.

I've also learned that, in many cases, the opportunities for an interesting picture are very fleeting -- literally a matter of a couple of seconds, before the person(s) in question move on, turn away, or stop doing whatever was interesting. So I've learned to keep the camera switched on (which contradicts my traditional urge to conserve battery power), and not worry so much about zooming in for a perfectly-framed picture ... after all, once the digital image is uploaded to my computer, it's pretty trivial to crop out the parts unrelated to the main subject.

For the most part, I've deliberately avoided photographing bums, drunks, drunks, and crazy people. There are a few of them around, and they would certainly create some dramatic pictures; but they generally don't want to be photographed, and I don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of them. I'm still looking for opportunities to take some "sympathetic" pictures of such people, which might inspire others to reach out and help them. We'll see how it goes ...

The only other thing I've noticed, thus far, is that while there are lots of interesting people to photograph, there are far, far, far more people who are not so interesting. They're probably fine people, and they might even be more interesting than the ones I've photographed ... but there was just nothing memorable about them.

Despite the fact that we have a criminal in The White House who has stolen an election, committed treason, is basically a Russian mobster, and has had affairs and coverups with several prostitutes, we still have to tolerate the onslaught of his daily horrifying policies, decisions, and world views. Just recently, Secretary of Education and destroyer of young souls, Betsy DeVos announced she wants to make federal funds available to arm teachers with guns, As most parents are sending their children back to school this week and next (or did so in the previous couple of weeks), this is the exact opposite of what they want. As an educator, this is also something I can say has really been an anathema to teachers. We went to school to teach children, not to use firearms. Despicable!

After departing Kerry Cliffs, we continued along the Skellig Ring with a climb up a hill and a switchback descent on a road far too narrow at most places for two cars to pass. As we approached St. Finan's Bay, we just had to stop. It is a gorgeous beach, and on this sunny day, we couldn't resist getting out of the car and walking around a bit. Before leaving, we had a quick lunch at a little place called Driftwood Surf Cafe.

Could not resist - had to upload this one as well, I kinda liked the drops and colour. xo

He vuelto con las zapas y los pantalones para tirar... pero... ¿Quien puede resistirse?

E. 12th Street & Broadway, NYC -- February 17, 2025

"Unconstitutional and Unconscionable"

Some beautiful colour at sunset last night... couldn't resist dashing out to capture something.

Aucune barbarie n’asséchera mon cœur…

Blue for the girls and pink for the boys - well why not for a bit of fun! I couldn't resist this art shot and it makes a change from the usual three-quarter efforts that always attract the bus photographer.

In the blue inside lane the girls get two Gemini B7's branded for Service 37 and 47 'Penicuik City Link', fleet numbers 813 and 806 - not to be seen for much longer in this livery as they too will shortly be repainted to weinrot und weiss. And for the pink outside lane the boys get two Gemini 2 - B9's, new in 2009 for Service 22, fleet umbers 347 and 336.

This pink livery was considered shocking when new but everyone seems to takes it for granted now. And the route of the 22 was supposed to be loosely similar to that of the proposed trams (due to start on the 25th of February 2011..yes really!). With that project now years and years and years away (if it ever happens at all now) who knows the pink 22's may be around for a very long time yet.

Nice to get four big buses all huddled together like this with their fleet numbers all visible.
