The 27m seiner/trawler Resilient (LK 195) arrived in Symbister, Whalsay following her maiden voyage from Whitby in North Yorkshire where she was built at the Parkol Marine Engineering Yard.
Her voyage north included stop-offs at Peterhead and Lerwick and came almost a year to the day after the new Guardian Angell (LK 272), also built by Parkol, arrived home.
Skipper Arthur Polson and partners John Irvine, Edward Jamieson and John Montgomery and crew Ian Reid, Steven Anderson and Brian Anderson are said to be very pleased with the new vessel.
Simon Collins, executive officer of Shetland Fishermen’s Association, said: “We’re delighted for Arthur and his partners and crew and wish them every success fishing in their fine looking new boat.
“This latest investment marks a return of confidence to the whitefish fleet following three years of record landings here in Shetland.
“The industry as a whole is focused on making Brexit work in a positive way, and it is encouraging that crews are determined to build a future for themselves.”
The Resilient Fishing Company Ltd of Whalsay sold the previous Resilient to a skipper in County Louth in Ireland. (This is the article used and printed by the Shetland Times)

This is a part of the fine D. J. Sindh Government Science College building in Karachi, Pakistan. Several fine educational institutions were built in Karachi by local philanthropists. Designed by James Strachan and considered this architect's greatest achievement, the D.J. Science College was founded in Karachi in 1887. The college is named after the Sindhi Hindu philanthropist Mr. Diwan Dayaram Jethmal whose name it bears. The College was opened on 17th January, 1887 by His Excellency Lord Reay, the Governor of Bombay in a bungalow in Thatai Compound, situated on Bunder Road, now MA Jinnah Roaf. Later on it was shifted to the present building in 1892. The College was by then a full-fledged institution with faculties of Arts, Sciences, Engineering and Law.
The college building was constructed in the neoclassical, or 'Italian architectural style'.
A considerable amount of money was spent on the interior of the college; the floors comprised mosaic tiles imported from Belgium and the eight-foot wide main staircase was fitted with ornamental cast-iron work from McFarlane & Company of Glasgow.
D.J. Sindh Government Science College is affiliated to the University of Karachi and the Board of the Intermediate Education Karachi, and prepares students up to B.Sc.

The devastating impact of COVID-19 on Travel & Tourism highlighted the need for enhanced resilience. Yet, to ensure the long-term competitiveness of the sector, such resilience must be both sustainable and inclusive and supported by enabling policies. As Travel & Tourism recovers, how can businesses and destinations alike enhance their resilience and drive sustainable and inclusive growth through their operations and investments?

Dr Mateugue Diack of the University of Gaston Berger, St Louis, Senegal, explains how a consortium of 10 African universities (from Algeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda) are working together to strengthen aspects of local level disaster management.
The United Cities and Local Governments conference this week in Rabat is the world’s largest gathering of mayors and municipality leaders. More than 3,000 delegates have converged on the Moroccan capital to discuss the increasing importance and influence of local leadership.
The Head of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction Margareta Wahlström led a vibrant debate among local leaders, academics and disaster managers at an official Side Meeting entitled ‘Access to Risk Information for Citizens, Local Governments and Partners’.
Ms Wahlström was joined on a top table by two world leading mayors engaged in building safer and more resilient cities and a top academic who is determined to take his university to the local level to strengthen disaster management decision making.
The discussion agreed that UNISDR’s Making Cities Resilient Campaign had helped create a community of ‘practitioner mayors’ working to protect their citizens but more work and more municipalities are needed to increase momentum for building a safer urban tomorrow.
