The Mansion House was built as the official residence of the Lord Mayor in 1725-33. The iron railings were made by the smith John Beadale, who given his freedom (allowed to set us and practice his craft after serving his apprenticeship and becoming a freeman of the city) for "making the iron work at the new house at Common Hall" in 1726. Common Hall was the medieval building which once stood on the site. The lamps may be a later alteration as they retain gas burners. I noticed these as I stood with the Lord Mayor at the window in the background, having delivered the drawings I had done for him to auction at his charity ball and Christmas card. The lamps are now fitted with low energy electric bulbs, though other lamps in the adjoining St Helen's Square are still lit by gas.
A re-post of a favourite drawing to cheer myself up as I recover from Covid-19 during a heatwave, the temperature has hit 40° C here today, two very good reasons for not picking up a pencil...

I called it home for a moment of my life
This place I see just doesn't look familiar
I wonder if it looks the same inside"

Kaiservilla, Bad Ischl
Gmunden, Upper Austria, Austria
The Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl, Upper Austria, was the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria, known as Sisi. Originally the palace was a Biedermeier villa. After Franz Joseph's engagement to Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria in 1853, Franz Joseph's mother, Princess Sophie of Bavaria, purchased the villa as a wedding present for the couple. The villa is surrounded by a large park in the "English Style". Today, the mansion is home to the Archduke Markus Habsburg, but also offers grounds tours to the public.

Details about this beautiful modernist home on my blog.
Architect: John Mock (1964)
Location: San Diego, CA
This is a view of our northern coast north of Fort Bragg. Here is an abandoned home that once upon a time must have been quite a nice residence. Now it's overgrown with vegetation and in great disrepair.
The current view will disappear once the new skyscrapers (you can see the crane on the construction site) grow to a considerable height, blocking these high-rise residence buildings.
