recently I have got a few Flickr mails from a few people asking if I take requests from them, so i thought that this would clear up all the questions. Feel-free to note down anything in the comments below, whether it be anything from a simple Christmas sweater to a big-fig-Construct-a-Santa, let me know and i'll get to it.

In response to requests to post some happier pictures of my dear departed wife Elaine.

Thank you to all for her friends around the world for their kind thoughts and for lighting a candle in her memory on the 25th at 20:00.

I am sorry that the current Corona-virus situations means that we are not able to get together to Celebrate Elaine's life.

Look at the pictures and remember her as she was.

Thank you all.

I know I am not alone in my loss as thousands of families around the world are experiencing this same heartbreak as a result Corona-virus. Even in my grief my heart feels for you all.

(Elaine's death was not Corona-virus related).

Top!

I have had a few requests lately to post some photos of my humble little backyard observatory.

I still have a few bugs to iron out before I can start shooting again so I figured this would be a good time to show the newly acquired equipment.

The observatory now houses a 14.5 inch Astrograph and the TMB 130 Refractor which are both mounted on a Paramount GT-1100S GEM. My new camera is a QHY9 Monochrome CCD with the KAF8300 chip. I am now using (or going to be as soon as I can get it to work) a Point Grey Chameleon guiding camera.

The total weight of the equipment is around 90 pounds. I am using 88 pounds of counterweights + an 8 inch extension on the counterweight shaft.

A request for something shorter. Trust me, this is as short as it gets.

An early start for me this morning, popping into Hyde because my car needed two new front tyres fitting. So what better way to wait for the job's completion than to nab a few photos on the final day before Bee Network Tranche 3 kicks in tomorrow?

After I took this shot, the driver asked if I wouldn't mind posting the image on social media somewhere, to commemorate what will be his last day driving for Stagecoach's Ashton depot before Metroline Manchester take over on the 5th.

Of course, I'm more than happy to oblige. I don't have the driver's name, or indeed what platforms he follows, but I do hope he gets to see this, either through the miracle of Flickr, or on the Metasphere somewhere. All the best to you, sir.

So here we are, on the road again, and I hadn't sorted out the Sony A6000 to Snapseed interfaces.

I shoot RAW and my image transfers from this trip look meh. After 4 weeks it finally occurred to me to look at the file size. Lo and behold, thumbnail jpgs were transferred. Ugh.

This is why my cellphone images look sharp on Flickr and the A6000 images do not.

I tested shooting RAW + JPG and the good, full Rez JPG does transfer. Lesson learned.

Next thing is image processing.

I read about how Norman Seeff used to print high contrast works with a twist. He used a black stocking between the enlarger lens and paper to give a interesting softness to some of his images.

He wasn't by any means the only one to do this.

When I worked at Samy Cameras photo lab on Sunset Blvd in Hollyweird we used to do this at client request. It was really no big deal.

What was a bigger deal was our use of Agfa Portriga Rapid 111 Glossy paper. It gave a gorgeous deep walnut brown tone. We used this for may of the gallery shows we printed for various then famous photographers.

Taking the black stocking idea and borrowing tones from Portriga Rapid, it turns out, expresses pretty well how I feel about Rome.

So, here is a series of images done in an old, outdated, likely not very hip manner.

As requested here's a photo of the Antimens with relics held in a circular wax disk.

This was requested. Hope that I fulfill your request :)

Comments are appreciated.
