A view of the former Illinois Central Passenger Station in Champaign. The Beaux-Arts style station was completed in 1924, and remained in use until 1999, when the new Illinois Terminal intermodal passenger station opened.
The former ICCR Passenger Station is a contributing property in the Champaign Downtown Commercial District listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020. Today the building is known as "The Station," and has been repurposed as a shopping and dining mall.
Located in Champaign County in east central Illinois, the twin cities of Champaign and Urbana are the home of the University of Illinois. The population of the City of Champaign at the 2020 census was 88,302, while Champaign County had a population of 205,865.
A view of the north side of the Winchester's Square on E. Market St. looking east from S. Main St. Note how the old bank on the corner has been repurposed as Winchester's City Hall. One block away, on the northeast corner of E. Market and S. Hill St., stands the eclectic Scott County Courthouse that was completed in 1885.
The commercial buildings in this block date from the mid-to-late 19th century. As the seat of Scott County, Winchester is an excellent example of the small, rural Illinois county seat built on the town square plan as it developed during the third quarter of the 19th century. All of the attributes are present: the square itself, enclosed by commercial buildings and an imposing courthouse; fine residences and churches; an almost complete lack of industry; and, quite important in preserving the aura, no major highways.
The flavor of Winchester is that of a peaceful rural county seat that established itself early - most of the city's prominent buildings were built before 1870 - and has changed very little over the years. All of the buildings shown in this photo of the north side of Winchester's square are contributing properties within the Winchester Historic District listed in 1979 on the National Register of Historic Places. The district includes 438 buildings, of which 273 are contributing.
Located in West Central Illinois, the city is part of the Jacksonville Micropolitan Statistical Area. The estimated population of Winchester in 2019 was 1,467. Scott County was the last of Illinois' 102 counties to report its first COVID-19 case and, as of June 2021, only one soul has been lost to the pandemic here.
Dick Brothers Brewery was founded in 1857, and was one of the largest beer brands in the early 20th century rivaling Anheuser-Busch at one time. Dick Brothers closed in 1951. Today the complex of buildings is being redeveloped for commercial and entertainment use. It now is the centerpiece of the South Side German Historic District, listed in 1992 on the National Register of Historic Places.

This week's theme for Mosaic Montage Monday was Repurposed. This was an old Orbit gas station from the space age days, now it's Suzie Burger! Maybe some of their Disco Tots for breakfast would be good. I wonder if fried Cheese Whiz is on the secret menu.

Previously the jar contained my homemade jam. The label is homemade, too. It is my photo of the view from our house at Rocky Butte. Mt Hood is obscured by the coin.
This is the remains of a tree that was felled in my local park, as a result of disease. These sections were left where they were felled and have become a feature, where families gather in the Summer and children climb. There is so much character in this solid timber that must be many years old.
A long time ago someone must have needed an instant corral so they lashed a bunch of utility gates together. This makeshift corral at Quiet Valley Ranch looks like it has been there a long time. HFF
These old vehicles are being placed in a field as art objects. An old grain elevator has been purchased and repurposed as a roadhouse tavern and outdoor music venue for the Harley Davidson crowd. In the summer this place will be thronging with beer and rock music affictionados who come here with their pickup trucks and motorcycles to have a good time drinking and talking and enjoying the outdoor scenery which includes a multitude of these old rusty vehicles that somehow fit the lifestyle of the intended patrons. A patron is one who appreciates and contributes to the production of and display of fine art. Perhaps I am jaded in my thinking, but to my mind these old rusting vehicles are as fine an example of art as anything I’ve seen at so called fine art fairs. To each his own, but the many rust and abandonment groups on Flickr prove that I am not the only one who loves this stuff. My hat is off to the people who envisioned this place. It is a great idea and a very popular place to drink a cold brew on a summer evening. Cheers!
Built in 1881 and occupied for over a half century as a bank, grocery store and a cigar factory before being converted into a theater, the Paramount Theater has been a fixture in Wyoming since 1934. The theater closed in 1969, and has since had a succession of owners. The Paramount briefly reopened in 1987, and again in the late 1990s for a few years. Today the Paramount lives on as a live performance and event venue.
With a population of 1,429 at the 2010 census, Wyoming is the largest city in Stark County, a small and heavily rural county located NNW of Peoria.
Once a workmen's hut for Dubs Quarry at the top of the Honister Pass, the Dubs Hut was renovated in 2016-17 by the Mountain Bothies Association (MBA). www.mountainbothies.org.uk/
The purpose of the MBA is "To maintain simple shelters in remote country for the use of all who love wild and lonely places." And this is most definitely one such place.
The deep cleft beyond the hut is the path down to Gatesgarth and the southern end of Buttermere Lake.
Repurposing your children's toys is a is a nice way to keep their memories close, and spiff up the old property a bit.

Hiding away from the eyes of the general public, this neat little critter spends her retirement days shuffling cars around within the confines of Charter Steel in Saukville, Wisconsin in a mostly intact coat of WC maroon and gold paint with it’s WC road number. The CN owns the Mill-Saukville portion of this line specifically to serve Charter Steel with a local based in Germantown, while the WSOR owns everything north up to Kiel and west to Ackerville with a local based in Granville. A quick picture search indicates that the retrofitted safety railings along the top of the hood were installed within the last couple of years. They’re not pretty, but at least the paint matches.

The old mill at Ebridge North Norfolk, long fallen into disuse, has been refurbished and converted into private dwellings.

Our coal-powered electrical generating plant will soon be replaced by one that is solar powered. Here's my tongue-in-cheek suggestion for how the old plant could be used.

Ventilation pipes running through an extensive network of hand-carved rock tunnels and cellars beneath Nuremberg Castle. They were used for centuries as beer cellars, water supply, and defense, famously repurposed during WWII as the Historic Art Bunker (Historischer Kunstbunker) to protect artworks (many stolen), and now accessible via guided tours. These underground passageways, reaching up to four stories deep, were crucial to the castle's function and can be explored today, revealing layers of history from medieval times to the Second World War.
