Found one that wasn't roadkill! And Pete was able to move it to the side of the road for a quick photo without too much trouble.

"Vili" the velociraptor might have been produced in a laboratory by combining frog DNA with that of dinosaurs (extracted from mosquitoes trapped in amber). However, some choose to argue that it is more likely that he is indeed a water monitor lizard, varanus salvator, one of the largest lizards currently inhabiting the planet. He weighs 60 kg (about 132 lbs) and enjoys eating. Humans provide him with a steady diet. (Which they bring him daily.)

(Just a few days after I posted this picture, there was an article published saying that the actual velociraptors may have had feathers instead of scales. Ah, well, I stand by Jurassic Park!)

The Boa Constrictor is a large, solitary snake from Central and South American rainforests, savannas, and semi-arid areas. Boas are kept as house-snakes in parts of South America, where the boas help by catching and suffocating rats. The Boa Constrictor is related to the larger Anaconda.

Freshwater crocodiles are found in the far north of Australia. They are found in most fresh water rivers, creeks lakes, watering holes and billabongs. Unlike their Salt water cousins, freshwater crocodiles live on a main diet of fish and don't pose any real threat to humans.

Farancia abacura reinwardtii

One of the Jersey zoo reptiles, a small critter about 10 cm long. Sorry, I can't remember its name, but all animals kept at Jersey zoo are there to help stop their species' decline. The zoo has a good track record of releasing successful captivity-bred animals into their natural habitat to repopulate dwindling populations.

These small snakes look like shiny worms. A close look reveals a shiny, dry (unless something wet is on it), scaly skin -- very unlike a worm.

This young snapping turtle went about 10 inches across the shell, weighed around 2.5 lbs. I photographed him on the road at Bedford Mills, then carefull picked him up and moved him before he was hit. Note the duck-weed and filamentous algae covering his carapace. My wife did not appreciate my "turtle stink" when I got back in the car!

This guy was just sitting by the side of the driveway. He didn't leave till I prodded him with a stick. These guys are not poisonous but they act like they could hurt you and will strike with a nonvenomous bite.
