DOWNTOWN - A major emergency structure fire consumed a large downtown Los Angeles flooring business early Sunday morning, with unseasonal weather causing a strong and persistent smoke odor to linger across the greater Los Angeles area for more than two days.
Due to weather conditions, residual smoke from this fire may be noted in the greater Los Angeles area until Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was reported at 2:57 AM on August 21, 2022, bringing the first of more than 150 Los Angeles Fire Department responders to 1228 South Compton Avenue, where firefighters arrived quickly to find heavy smoke and fire within a 15,000 square foot U-shaped one-story metal clad commercial building housing C.Y. Flooring, a purveyor of wood, laminate and vinyl flooring products.
Firefighters forced entry onto the property and into the well secured premises to battle fierce flames, which involved retail space and dense warehousing of flooring products within conjoined metal structures.
As fire swept through the main building and into an annex, firefighters were forced to transition to defensive operations, successfully preventing fire from consuming the firm's office space or damaging a pair of immediately adjacent industrial buildings.
The non-injury fire was brought under control in just 83 minutes with the extinguishment of active flame. No injuries were reported.
With countless tons of smoldering debris and physically unstable building remnants, the LAFD assigned more than a dozen personnel to remain continuously on scene through Tuesday, deploying heavy equipment such as excavators and the LAFD RS3 Robotic Firefighting Vehicle to abate structural hazards, overhaul the scene and further soak the hot and smoking mountain of debris.
The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.

Catch Report - 26/05/12 - Balls Wood, Hertford
About 12 or so people turned up for this first official trip of the year. The weather had been hot and sunny for the previous week and at last the nights were warm - not freezing cold! There was a stiff easterly breeze, but in the wood we scarcely noticed it. A total of 7 mv lamps were operated from generators from 21.30 hours until 04.30 the following morning, though only three of us camped out until dawn, with most people heading for home by about 01.00 hours.
Interestingly, of the 64 macro species caught, 13 species were caught only in that later period between 01.00 and 04.30. One was recorded as a larva crawling across the sheet - presumably having fallen from the overhanging Hornbeam branches.
The macro moth highlight was probably POPLAR LUTESTRING of which we had several. The micros bring the total up to 91 species (with 3 species still outstanding - awaiting genitalia dissection). Best by far is EPINOTIA NANANA (book page 230) which has not been seen in Hertfordshire since 1966 and which I labelled as probably extinct here. The caterpillar feeds on Spruce.
In the following list those marked with an asterisk (*) were named by genitalia dissection. Numbers are approximate. If anyone can remember anything that I have not listed do please let me know.

The latest planet-wide visual scan from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter shows that dusty and cloudy conditions continued across the Red Planet late last month. Both rovers (Spirit in Gusev Crater and Opportunity in Meridiani Planum) saw diffuse dust haze and scattered water ice cloud cover. In this image, the Valles Marineris canyon can be seen filled to the brim with dusty air near the western (left) limb of the planet near the equator. Just to the north of the canyon, white clouds drift through the skies.
Due to solar conjunction, this is the last Martian weather image that will be received on Earth for a few weeks.

K's often been frustrated with me at my difficulty understanding her when she's talking, especially in noisy environments. So we went in to Oregon City to see the ENT and Audiologist.
The audiologist subjected me to three different tests and this is the result of one of them. He explained that this is what listening to rock concerts (and other sustained loud noises) will do to your hearing. Because this is a log chart, it reveals that sounds at 2000-4000 Hz frequencies are 100 to 1000 times fainter for me than they are for K (her report has a straight line at the 10dB level at these frequencies).
I can distinguish words well in a quiet room, fortunately.
Apparently this type of damage is hard to help with hearing aids, and the damage is significant, so I can't manage much more reduction in hearing ability without starting to have a real problem. The audiologist and ENT both warned me to always use ear protection for any loud environment (concerts, even a single cut on the table saw, mowing the lawn).
Reporting straight from "Land of Big Browns", it`s DUO Spain`s Pep Franco with one of finer specimen populating the waters. And you know where trout is mentioned, the name "Ryuki" can not be far behind. This time it was Ryuki 70S in "Yamame Red Belly" scoring a "Catch of the Week".

When Ella meets a dashing stranger in the woods, unaware that he is really the Prince (Richard Madden) and not merely Kit, an apprentice at the palace, she believes she has finally found a kindred soul. Meanwhile, the calculating Grand Duke (Stellan Skarsgård) devises a plan to thwart the Prince’s hopes of reuniting with Ella and enlists the support of the devious Stepmother. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand. Soon, a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham Carter) steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin, a few mice and a magic wand, changes Cinderella’s life forever.

The GEANCO Foundation is hosting its annual Impact Africa Hollywood fundraiser on Monday, September 21, at Sunset Gower Studios, to raise awareness and increase support for vulnerable women and children in Nigeria.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Brightland Academy in southeast Nigeria and the Girls’ Government Science School in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. Specifically, donations will pay for computers and educational supplies for teachers and students, including books, paper, pencils and notebooks, clothing and a wide variety of medicine for the schools’ in-house clinics. Donations will also underwrite medical care and mental health support for young girls brutalized by the terrorist group Boko Haram.
