Distinguished members of the Solar Confederation.
My name is Harley and I am the Commander of the Yamakoto.
I am proud to report that my crew and I have managed to fly the Yamakoto through our solar system at 3 times the speed of light.
The stars are now within reach because we will fly even faster.
Thought I'd throw an extra shot up today.
They have the platform built that they will rest the last arch piece on and attach it. They actually spread the bridge to put the piece in place! Then it's pulled back together.
The last piece should be going up soon. The first side should be completed and open by late this year. At least that's the plan. It was supposed to be open last fall!

Far away and deep within the trees, so I was happily surprised to get an OK shot of a hawk species I had not seen before. I have been on several bird walks over the years when someone would say "Broad-winged Hawk!", but all we could see was a distant speck flying high in the sky. The Broad-winged Hawk is classified as Sensitive in the General Status of Alberta Wild Species report.
This was the very first time I had been to Confederation Park, as it was out of my driving comfort zone. So glad I made myself do the drive, though, as I would have missed this beautiful hawk. There were various Warbler species, but they were too fast for me to see. This is a lovely park, though we only walked in one small area.

I was a little surprised by The Evening Standard's crusade for the poor in London in their recent week-long series of articles on those who don't live in Notting Hill or Knightsbridge. It was probably just an attempt to gather a bit of support for the Tories by blaming everything wrong in the world on the Labour Government now that the General Election is on the horizon.
Now, reporting the poverty that still exists in London (and the rest of the UK of course) is very important and it is a good thing that somebody is doing it. What I object to is the utter ignorance of this poverty in the paper for the other 51 weeks of the year, and the attempt to turn this poverty into a political issue to use to the advantage of a political party. That's not going to breed positive results is it?
The opening paragraph on day one of the Standard's campaign was:
"London is a shameful tale of two cities. In the richest capital in Europe almost half our children live below the poverty line. These families are cut off from the life most Londoners take for granted. They are the dispossessed.
The Evening Standard will shine a light on their plight. With the general election imminent, we demand action."
As the only citywide newspaper in London you'd think that the poverty that exists here wouldn't come as such a surprise to the staff of the Standard. Yet reading the paper you realise that its target audience live in another world of minor Royals, book launches, West End theatres, disputes with architects, and restaurants where the price of a meal for two, with wine, would feed the dispossessed for 6 months.
You probably won't be surprised to learn that the Evening Standard is owned by a Russian billionaire and it's editor is an ex Etonion who went to Oxford, lives in Notting Hill and "has never let up his devotion to the privileged social scene". Average Londoners then. The absence of any criticism for London's multi-millionaire Conservative Mayor was also noticeable by it's absence.
I believe that the only thing the Standard had in mind with its light shining plight is to stoke up right wing fury (check out the comments on any of the articles to see how successful they were in this) and boost support for their equally rich Conservative friends in the election in May. Be careful what you wish for.
Of course...
Gotham News reports multiples homicides, all involving bite marks and scratches on an Arkham Asylum security guard and multiple other citizens, and Manbat's cell just so happens to be in pieces and empty.
I knew it wouldn't be long until he broke out, but i expected it to be longer than a week. Oh well, that's Arkham. No time, for that right now, though. Alfred says i need to get out of the house. Says people are starting to worry that something's happened to me. He's not wrong. It has been a while since I've been in public. Alot longer than the usual amount of time that people mourn a death. But i haven't been mourning...I've been seeking vengeance. Joker's going to pay for his crimes against Gotham, and against me. Oh right, gotta smile for the cameras.
When i get outside, the flashes are almost blinding. So many of them all at once. Alfred holds them back to the best of his ability as i walk to the Black Bentley that's waiting in the driveway. The chauffeur starts driving once i get situated.
After a couple minutes, when we are driving through a wooded area, the car slows down to a stop and three guys get in the car.
"What are you you doing?! Who are you guys?"
"Shut up," one guy says.
And before i know it, i get sprayed with something...crap...it's c-it's chloro--chlorof.....

I wake up in complete darkness, when a bright screen lights up in front of my face, about 20 feet or so away. I can now see that I'm in a giant concrete box, sitting in a metal chair, with my hands locked to the arms by metal cuffs. And then i realize that I'm in an electric chair.
On the screen, i see a man in a white smiley face mask with spiked shoulder plates and tech body armor. I can only see that far down. And then i notice the symbol on his chest. A cracked red skull. Anarky.
//"Hello Mr. Grayson. Or should say Nightwing?"//
"What do you want Anarky? I don't have time for this."
//"Aw, no time for me? That hurt my feelings. You need to be taught a lesson about manners!"// Suddenly i begin to feel extreme volts of electricity shocking me. The pain is unbearable.
"AAAAAGGGHHHH!!!"
//"Now, have we learned some manners?"//
"..."
//"HAVE WE learned some manners, Mr. Grayson?"//
"Yes, sir."
//"Good. Now I'm going to tell you where you need to go, and you-"//
"If you think I'm going to listen to a word you say, then-"
//"I WAS TALKING!"//
There's that shock again. "AAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!"
//"As i was saying, I am going to tell you where i want you to go and you will go there."//
"And why the heck would i do that?"
//"Because i left you a little...present there. *chuckles* The location of your gift is Gotham Bank. You better get there fast because there isnt much time before someone else gets it!"//

Suddenly, the cuffs unlock and I can get up from the chair. Just then, a piece of the floor opens up in the far left corner of the room and a metal latter rises to the ceiling, leading to a manhole cover. I climb out of the room and find myself in the middle of a street. The bank is two blocks away. Great. So, i run the whole two blocks to Gotham Bank.
When i walk up to the doors, i start hearing screaming. Not just one person, lots of people. But then i hear a sound that's out of the ordinary. Almost like a giant...bat. Then i realize, someone else got my present.

“The weather today is perfect! But of course, it’s always perfect here in Blytheville!”

The Royal Blue Run 2021 took place over the summer solstice weekend in mid June and covered around 750 miles from Harlow in Essex, out to Southend, down to Southampton, along to Plymouth, then up through Truro, Newquay, Barnstaple and Taunton before finishing in Stroud in Gloucestershire!
With various Covid restrictions in place limiting numbers on coaches, the opportunity to take the White Bus centenary bus as additional capacity was too good to miss (thanks go to the White Bus directors).
This looks like the main structure of building C is getting close to its maximum height. The only section of naked rebar looks like it will be the home to elevator machinery.

▶ After refusing to concede the 2020 U.S. presidential election and then perpetuating false claims of widespread voter fraud, then-President Donald Trump summoned a mob to the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Committee received sworn testimony that Trump knew he did not win the election, identifying him as "the center of the first and only effort by any U.S. President to overturn an election and obstruct the peaceful transition of power".
▶ A terrible and sad moment in our history but also a critical one, reaffirming that no one in America is above the law, including (especially) the president. That is, of course, pending action by the Justice Department.

It's been hard country for two days now, swamps and ruins in places we haven't seen them. A good third of us have either been born here or spend several years here, but to walk through it makes us lose our feet.
Buildings aren't just toppled about, they're addresses none of us have seen or known before, made worse by profane marks that dot the walls. Some of the men swear they're nauseous by looking at them, but that could just be the shock of all this. I'm not putting that idea in their heads.
Nightfall is worse for the men. One of the recruits saw something in the night sky and told the others; never got a look at what he saw, but the stars began to move. Circling about, joining or batting into each other before skipping off, leaving it absolute night. Pulled the lad aside and warned him never to speak of that again.
Today was a tipping point for us. We'd heard some kind of commotion in a nearby square. I brought our photographer to the front with us to capture this, because nothing I could write would be believable. We saw people dancing about, clothed in torn rags, their skin marked with blotches of what looked like blackness, were it not for the occasional glimmer or bit of debris.
They shouted and groaned in a language none of us knew, chanting while their profane dance continued. Others joined their group, but I didn't dare risk out secrecy. Shapes I couldn't describe and voices clear from the jungle or the mountains joined in.
Note: I'm ordering absolute secrecy for our unit, even in the case of civilians. I don't know if this is some kind of plague or infection, but there is a wrongness to the people here. I won't lose a man to it.
