The high rate of illiteracy among women in South Sudan is another obstacle to women political participation. According to the Ministry of Education’s report of July 2011, the illiteracy rate in South Sudan is 73% and women represent the overwhelming majority. Other estimates even put the figure as high as 80%. This is a very high percentage given the population size of the country. Several factors contributed to such high illiteracy rate, among them the consequences of the 22-year civil war during which many educational institutions were destroyed, as well as some cultural perceptions that undervalue girls and women’s education.

Long Tailed ducks reported off Harveysburg Rd at Caesar Creek SP. At 31, it may be highest recorded number in Southwest Ohio. Hunters in boats were out preparing blinds along the shore for the hunting season that begins the following day and each time a boat got close, the ducks took flight. A great photo op as they came closer to the point in flight compared to their normal position in the middle of the lake, a 1/2 mile away.

About “McFarland, USA” is rated PG and releases on February 20, 2015.
Based on the 1987 true story, “McFarland, USA” follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. Coach White and the McFarland students have a lot to learn about each other but when White starts to realize the boys’ exceptional running ability, things begin to change. Soon something beyond their physical gifts becomes apparent—the power of family relationships, their unwavering commitment to one another and their incredible work ethic. With grit and determination, the unlikely band of runners eventually overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well. Along the way, Coach White realizes that his family finally found a place to call home and both he and his team achieve their own kind of American dream. Niki Caro directs Disney’s “McFarland, USA” with screenplay by Christopher Cleveland & Bettina Gilois and Grant Thompson, and story by Cleveland & Gilois. Gordon Gray and Mark Ciardi are producing, with Mario Iscovich and Mary Martin serving as executive producers. For more information, please visit our website at: movies.disney.com/mcfarland-usa

This writing is actually found in Johnston Park. In a City Planning Report prepared in 1919, there was a proposal to put a park in this area to be called "Monocacy Park." One area of the creek was to be for bathing and skating. There also was a playground, a bandstand, and a shelter proposed. However, the report advised not to put a lot of money into the project since the Lehigh and New England Railroad Co. would most likely buy the land and use it as a freight yard.
